Medical Insurance

Featured Replies

Do any members have experience with Anthem Medical Insurance. It is formerly Blue Cross of California. It is International. I am trying to learn what major Thai hospitals accept it. My coverage will start December 1.

I have BCBS of Arizona and they were really good when I was injured in a Vespa crash in Chiang Mai last year. Even called me in my ICU room to check and see that everything was going well.

I think it depends on the hospital, that ISO rating thing but not quite sure. The hospital should be able to tell you if the insurance provider is acceptable.

Did the CM hospital take care of the billing to your insurance company directly? Or, as is pretty common here, you pay upfront and submit the receipts for reimbursement. The latter is what I do with my U.S. health insurance company, they're pretty good about getting me a check back in 30 days or so.

May we suggest you contact Anthem and ask them who they have contracts with ?

Yes, they did. ( Billed BCBS directly) Held my passport until BCBS informed them they would pay. ( about 2 days )

Went extremely smooth with no problems whatsoever.

Had problems on the day I was discharged from CM Ram and went right back in. BCBS again was billed direct and again, no problems.

Although they mailed me my member card with account and group numbers. Anthem won't give me any information until December 1 the account activation date. I am trying to get an early start.

Suggest you dump them fast and get you money back ! Any insurance company should give you those details before you sign-up and pay, what are they trying to hide ?

They're not trying to hide anything. You can't sign onto the website that lists all their cooperating hospitals until you are a member. Been there, done that. Meanwhile, for planning purposes, the worst that can happen is that you pay first and they reimburse. BCBS does cover Bumrungrad for inpatient services...in fact, Bumrungrad has a liaison who will make all the appropriate contacts for you. Bumrungrad does not accept BCBC for outpatient services, but you can submit your bills to BCBS yourself.

BCBS covers the following hospitals;

( for Bangkok)

Bumrungrad

Bangkok Nursing Home Hospital

Samitivej Sukumvit Hospital

Saint Louis Hospital

Thai Nakarin Hospital

I inquired with BCBS today.

For inpatient services you must contact BCBS at 1-800-810-BLUE ( 2583 )

For what it's worth...hope this helps.
