German has pocket picked on songteowl

He immediately alerted the driver who searched everyone onboard

At ten past nine in the evening of March 17, Police Major Chaiyaporn Tongnapiang, inquiry inspector at Pattaya Police Station, received word of a farang having his pocket picked on a Songteowl.

Officers were sent to investigate the incident on Second Road near Soi 8 and met with the Songteowl driver Sangop Petdee, 30. They also spoke with the farang who had been robbed, Martin Fabian, a twenty one year old from Germany. He explained that he got onto the baht bus with his Thai girlfriend at South Pattaya and after ringing the bell near Soi 8 to get off he reached into his pocket to pay and realised that his wallet was missing. He immediately alerted the driver who searched everyone onboard.

Eventually, on one of the passengers, the wallet was found. The thief, who cannot be identified, was only five years of age. Of course the scam had been stage-managed by adults, one of whom fled the moment the wallet was found. The other, also a woman, was detained along with the child until the officers arrived.

The wallet containing 3,520 baht was handed back to Martin Fabian, and the woman Oosaar Eyamsa-art, 24, was held over or further question. It’s not known what will happen to the young girl.

Yes this scam is becoming all too common.. ...The thieves will usually distract you on the baht bus before plundering your pocket..

Be careful when holding the rail above your head and never have your wallet in your back pocket....

Yes a mate had this tried on him last week. Fortunately his wallet was well secured. The attempted scam involved an old thai lady with a baby , a young thai woman and possibly one other. The old look at the cute baby while the other steals your wallet routine. Beware its not only the drivers who are trying to rob you.
