whiterussian
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/topics/weather/...ct-weather.html 'Mini skirt meteorology' used to predict weather The length of women's mini skirts can be used to predict changes in the weather ahead of announcements from the Met Office, it has been claimed. The rises and falls in the length of skirts are said to be a good way of forecasting what the weather will be like three days in advance, based on research at eBay. Analysts at the company said the length of skirts sold on the website becomes shorter several days before the weather changes for the better, and lengthens when colder conditions are due. On occasions, the trend is said to have predicted a shift in the weather before any advice has been issued by the Met Office using more traditional meteorological methods. Demand for skirts on the internet auction site reportedly rose by 200 per cent a week before the recent hot weather began, several days before forecasters had announced it. Ruth Szyszkowski, of eBay, told the Daily Mail: "We're calling it mini skirt meteorology. If you want to know what the weather is going to be like in three days, just take a look at hemlines." :: Conditions during the remainder of the Bank Holiday weekend are set to improve, forecasters at the Met Office said. The warmer weather that arrived in much of the country on Sunday is set to remain for at least the first half of the week, with temperatures reaching up to 24C (75F) on Wednesday. whiterussian
1 - hypothesis 2 - method & observation 3 - conclusion A random sample of Chiang Mai women were observed over a period of months and the length of hot pants recorded as well as the blouse permeability/material transparency potential. Excess baggage such as large handbags with poncho carrying capacity were also noted. Increased observations of motorbike helmets on Chiang Mai women are also hypothesised to be a leading indicator of a cold snap, or potential rain - a know factor of severe hair management disruption and make-up disfunction. The only time they have rain coat on is when its raining along with an umbrella, newspaper or plastic shopping bag. Oh short mini dress..shorter the dress higher the water means more rain. lannarebirth
Why can't western universities get government grants for this kind of important research rather than yet another study on the mating habits of dung beetles?
Donnyboy
Why can't western universities get government grants for this kind of important research rather than yet another study on the mating habits of dung beetles? coz govts usually know this research would be never ending, and they do have a limited budget
whiterussian
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/jun/0...atures-heatwave According to the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA), the national climate monitoring service that measures global temperatures by satellite, 2010 is shaping up to be one of the hottest years on record. The first four months were the hottest ever measured, with record spring temperatures in northern Africa, south Asia and Canada. The global temperature for March was a record 13.5C (56.3F) and average ocean temperatures were also the hottest for any March since record-keeping began in 1880. On Sunday, scientists reported that Africa's Lake Tanganyika, the second deepest freshwater lake in the world, is now at its warmest in 1,500 years, threatening the fishing industry on which several million lives depend. The lake's surface waters, at 26C (78.8F), have reached temperatures that are "unprecedented since AD500," they reported in the journal Nature Geoscience. Some scientists have suggested that the warming experienced around the world this year is strongly linked to warmer than usual currents in the Pacific Ocean, a regular phenomenon known as El Niño. Others say that it is consistent with long-term climate change ----------------- n.b: El Nino in Thailand comes as La Niña - masses of rain, floods etc.... Sparkles
is this rain ever going to arrive?i cant ever remember it being so late, sure we have had the odd day, but nothing like this in recent years. We have had virtually no rain in Hang Dong of recent times.HOWEVER there was a concerted effort by the frog community last night to alert us that it is coming, maybe tonight. chiangmaiexpat
Thank you, that was quite informative, whiterussian. It confirms what we've all been experiencing here in CMX this year. It's still bloody hot like in April... and this is June! I am afraid our observation is consistent with the global warming trend. Looks like Al Gore was right after all. If this continues, we will see some serious draughts up here in the next decade, and perhaps floods as well as the one in 2005. However, this seems benign compared to what will happen to Bangkok and other lowlands around the gulf of Thailand. "In the last few weeks several credible scientific studies have indicated that glacial melting in both Greenland and the Antarctic is occurring much more rapidly than had been previously anticipated. If this trend persists as seems likely, the consequences may be profound, not just for future generations, but also for many who are adults today...." http://www.climate.org/topics/sea-level/polar-ice-melt.html Cheers, CMX
