Does anyone know where one can train/practice iaido in Bangkok?

I've studied Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu iaido, but after much fruitless searching, I don't think I can afford to be picky.

No, I'm looking to learn, not teach. I only have a year's experience, and took a brief layover to test for my shodan en route to Thailand. While my sensei did discuss the possibility of starting a group in Bangkok, I am not inclined to do so, due to my inexperience.

thanks for reply ,that's very modest of you.

refreshing to see such an attitude these days.

I can well understand how you feel, but if you do feel like starting up a practice group, please let me know.

I liked what i saw of iaido in japan as it seemed very meditive.

I had the pleasure of knowing an American sensei many years ago, a Mr Donn Draeger

who was excellent.

best wishes

Hi All,

My friend sent me this topic. I would like to tell you that I am a Thai who used to study in Japan from 2003 to 2006. I practised MusoJikiden Eishinryu from a Dojo in Osaka for almost two years, and granted Shodan.

There are no Iaido Dojo or Sensei in Bangkok, as far as I know. But in Chiangmai, there is one Sensei (7th Dan, I guess he is over 70) long-staying. I know him because he was one of Sensei in the Dojo I practised (Minoh Iaido Kyokai). His name is Okada-sensei.

In year 2008, I and my friend who is a former kendo, went to Chiangmai to take a special practise (for me I passed Shoden, 11 old-style kata in elementary level). However, because of our inconveniecies in time and budget, we cannot often go to Chiangmai.

However, if you have very interest to form a practise group of MusoJikiden Eishinryu. I will talk with my sensei to invite him to teach us a special training session in Bangkok, it nevertheless less expensive than we all go to Chiangmai.

If you would like to talk to me in details, pls contact me via [email protected]

NOW THIS IS THE LATEST UPDATE.

Unfortunately, although there are some people who want to participant, My sensei who is living in Chiang Mai has quited from teaching Iaido and spending his time for vacation, he is around 72 years old.

I tried to contact another sensei (Hattori Sensei), but, unfortunately again, he permanently returned to Japan.

So it can be concluded that I cannot find Iaido sensei in Thailand now.

Since November last year, I entered an Aikido classroom called Aikido-Atthayooth (literally means "integrated martial arts").

They teach Aikido as the main (because the instructor was a pupil of Thai Aikikai), but also include practices of Muay Thai (and sometimes BJJ) from guest instructors in some training hours in each month.

But the main practice is still Aikido and Aikido-based self-defence.

please visit http://www.aikido-atthayooth.com/ (sorry, in Thai only, so pls view the pics)

Sometimes before training session begins, I personally practice Iai Kata with a friend, but it's just personal practice. I cannot "teach" anyone as a sensei because I'm just Shodan. However, if there're people would like to join practice together with me, the plan of setting Iaido practitioner club might be possible

If you're interested in bokken and jo training, try Renbukan Dojo (Phrakanong BTS station). Every Saturday from 20:00-21:00 they have special bokken & jo classes
