Where To Live - On Call At Don Mueang?

Featured Replies

So am new here and faced with the seemingly daunting task of finding housing. So... on call pilot out of DM airport - would like to be able to get there comfortably in 45 minutes - taxi. Really have no idea as I have just arrived and haven't done much research. Thanks in advance for all advice.

Would prefer apt. over house - for now. Also, doesn't have to be serviced but would like nice bldg with pool and other nice facilities.

Cheers!

Start with checking out the DM area on Google maps. Have a look at the names of neighbourhoods.

Rebt a car and drive in that area to get a feel for the place.

Plenty of places to live. Do you speak any Thai?

Alright - more questions of course... And unfortunately, I don't speak any Thai. First time here and have only been here since the weekend...

Is it easy to rent a car? Would living so far from the city with no connections - other than the folks at work that speak some english - and no proficiency with the language be advised or should I live closer to the city - Ari BTS perhaps??

I guess I'm thinking about more of an expat lifestyle to make the transition easier - or is living in the 'suburbs' common as well?

For transport it's more covenient if you live in DM area or in Nangwongwan etc but for single guy there is not much to do. If you have family then fine, get a house from the area.

I was about to recommend anything between the city and DM along the BTS line but you mention Ari BTS and i would say that is spot on. Easy to move around with BTS and Expressway to DM is convenient and fast.

Cheers - much appreciated. Meeting with Bangkok Finder rep. on Saturday to look at a few places in Ari area. Anyone have experience with that outfit - good or bad??

Don't know them, there is Mr. Roomfinder that i never got any reply back while i was looking last year. But then again sending emails won't do much in Thailand. Better always to call.

My experience with Acute Realty was ok, they also have good web pages. Then there is prakard dot com for classified listings, this is good to see the general price levels in the area. And Thai Visa classifieds right here on TV.

One good option is just to walk around and see the signs in roadside and visit the buildings you like and ask from the condo office. They usually know all the units in the market and can set you up with the owners and agents.
