Wondering How To Find A Native Japanese Teacher For 2 Year Old

I'm wondering where to find a native japanese language tutor for my child who is about to turn 2, in bangkok.

I have a position in Japan that i am returning to in about a year, so he will be in japan then. I would like him to know some japanese first.

Just interested in having a native speaker come by my house for a few hours a week to play with him and talk to him in japanese only.

I read/write japanese, so I googled to try to find some active forums regarding bangkok for japanese people. I found a few forums (fora?) but frankly there was little to no activity on them. Maybe I missed it, if there is an active online forum in japanese?

If anyone has any advice, either a japanese person who would be interested in a part time job, or someone with knowledge of where I might look for someone, some place to turn for advice, would be appreciated.

Thanks

Have you tried the Jap Embassy ? You may be able to get assistance from Japanese speaking Thai there. Good luck.

Try a notice at the Japanese used book store outside (well on the same level) as the Phrom Pong BTS, then maybe a few bites may come your way.... plenty out there. Natives.... come to Bangkok to babysit....hmmmm, try the bored housewife set...

Do you know the Japanese SNS called mixi? It is a little bit complicated to register there (an invitation and probably a cellular phone with an EZweb/Docomo/Softbank e-mail address is required) but there are such communities (forums) as Hohoemi no kuni Tai or Tai de hataraku on mixi and I suppose it shouldn't be difficult to find someone who would undertake the part-time job you offer.

You might try to find some Thai university graduate with a BA in Japanese. Cost wise a lot better for you and some will jump at the chance to even have a job. Most who have a BA in Japanese will only find jobs in hotels or tour agencies. I doubt you will find a native Japanese who will do the job for a Thai salary.

Well, I know some Thais who graduated from such universities as Chulalongkorn or Thammasat with a bachelor's degree in Japanese studies and either ① have been living in Japan for 5-7 years as postgraduate (M.A./Ph.D.) students (receiving a scholarship from the Japanese government) or ② have already returned to Thailand and are living at a relatively high level, often incomparable to their average countrymen.

BTW, a job in a tour agency might be also interesting - it depends on our likes and dislikes.

I doubt you will find a native Japanese who will do the job for a Thai salary.

There is a phenomenon called gensai (an abbreviation of genchi sai y ō). A great many Japanese are working for relatively low salaries, f.e. 50-70.000 baht per month. Even though it's much more than an average Thai would earn, it is still quite low compared with the wages of so-called 'residents' ( chūzaiin). It depends on whether they were employed by the company in Japan before coming to Thailand or hired locally. Generally speaking, gensais seem to have more freedom and don't have to go back to their country after the contract has expired.

If you go to Japanese bookstore like Tokyodo, Kinokuniya (in Isetan) and other Japanese establishments like Fuji Supermarket, you will find numerous free papers in Japanese language distributed at those venues. Grab one of them and post an ad in their classified ad section (free). DACO is probably one of the most widely circulated free papers among Japanese community in Thailand and will send their papers to your home free of charge. They probably have the largest classified ad section.

You might also try Bangkok Madam.

There are numerous online forum in Japanese about Thailand, but none comparable to TV. If you read/write Japanese you shouldn't have problem googling them.

Sounds more like you need a Japanese babysitter- might make more sense to phrase the job description that way!

Well I have a full time live in nanny whose primary job is to watch the kid. So I dont really need a babysitter. They dont have to do anything like change diapers, feed or care for the kid. I just want the language to be transferred from their brain to my kid's brain. So I think the original description as a teacher is correct.

My wife has a Finance & Japanese language teaching background. Much of her Japanese teaching experience has been with adults.

A few questions:

1) What is the weekly frequency you had in mind? We have a fair bit of travel, other commitments - so some weeks she may be out of town.

2) Are you located close to a BTS/MRT - we're in the lower Sukhumvit area.

Even if this is not a fit, once we get an idea of your needs, may be able to identify someone else. For instance, would you consider a (Japanese) mother with child in the same age group as yours coming over? There may also be Japanese playgroups... if you are open to that as well.

Feel free to PM if you prefer to communicate that way.
