anyone ever do this trip? looks like one can go east and one can go west but either way a gruelling minimum 30 hr journey.

any suggestions regarding itinerary and prices? looks like Lufthansa to Frankfurt then to Buenos Aires may be the most convenient but I'm wondering about other options...

thanks in advance :)

Do a google for: bangkok to Buenos aires

A whole bunch of www sites show up where you can spend a whole bunch of time looking at timing, routes, and air fares. Saw one for $2,562. Hmmm, hope that was round trip.

And, did a google for Thai restaurants in Buenos Aires, found three, one of which has a www site. Suggest you call or email them, they'd probably know the best way to travel.

agree with above-keeps amazed about these continuous questions-google and the rest should be the first start

30 hrs is far, far too long: via Europe-its 11+another 11/12 hrs-can do both flights nonstop, but there will be a longer transit though.

Main hub for flights to South America in Europe are Spain-no need to even think about, and Italy (esp. For BsAs). Alas, both are not the best to get cheap fares to ex BKK.

ALT: via USA/LAX-wont be that much shorter, and as nationality unstated-may have issues with entry to USA, even if just transiting (Thai need visa)

thanks, folks fer the quick replies...I looked at expedia to see what they would suggest and came up with the 30 hr travel time figure; I've used them for trips between the ME and the UK and they're usually OK...

thanks for the thai restaurant tip, mac...I'll get on to them to see what they say, presuming that the restaurant is run by thais and not some local campesinos whippin' up the tom yum in the back :D

btw, I'm US and fluent in spanish so's I'll be able to investigate any option thoroughly :)

thanks a bunch...

I second what Mac says and will add the route that "seemed" to make more sense to me. BTW, kayak.com is your friend. I haven't taken the trip yet, but my plan was BKK to Auckland, one day stopover/rest (free visa), then nonstop to BA.

yeah...what I'm wantin' to do here is to get a handle on typical arrangements as there may be a job comin' up...don't know yet if there will be a travel allowance or the usual number of tickets per year offering.

I worked in Chile once when based in the UK and that trip was a mother...only ever did get mob and demob for that one and nothing in between; that ain't ever gonna happen again so gotta be prepared... :)

A fellow student of mine from Argentina, went home via HongKong and Johannesburg in South Africa, since that seemed to be the cheapest flight he could find (and geographically it makes sense). AirAsia to HK, South African for the rest. Price was around $1250 oneway though.

You could check out Korean Air BKK to Atlanta (one stop at Seoul) plus nonstop Delta airlines ATL to Buenos Aires. It will be well over 2000 dollars RT but the connections are good.

Hi tutsi, i asked this exact question some time back as i wanted to visit family( http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Bkk-Buenos-A...hl=buenos+aires )

I ended up not taking the journey. I was then thking to do Bkk- Lon (stoppover for a while) then Lon-EZE (stoppover) and EZE- Bkk. It actually worked out cheaper to get a bkk-lon return and a Lon-EZE return!!! But thats a heck of a lot of flying :)

If you find an easy cost effective solution, please post!

Malaysia Airlines is the cheapest.

Still not cheap of course. :)

Probably the shortest route too - flying time out of KUL about 22 hours, with en-route stops in Johanesburg and Cape Town.

Malaysian Airlines?...them muslims serve likker on their airplanes?

but, yeah...good to know that there are alternatives. I ain't got the job yet but the leave arrangements will be a definite point of discussion when it arises. The employer will usually pay for the cheapest economy fare but I'll need business class for a long flight which I'll haveta top up meself...can always make an adjustment to the salary to account...

so, looks like not easy to do with one airline, Lufthansa to Frankfurt then to BA about the only deal goin' with one transfer...gotta negotiate on that basis...

thanks for the ref, miz eek...if there are any cost wise solutions that I discover I'll let you know :D

however, as these will be contractual leave arrangements they're bound to be expensive...an' ah gots t'come across all high falutin or dey doan respec' me... :D

Have done that BKK-KL-JoBerg-BsAs twice on Malaysian but years ago. Not too bad, even in economy. Friendly service, decent airports. Try TVAir in Emporium.

Yes Malaysia Airlines do serve alcohol and the service and food are really good. You will have to do without pork though :)

It's probably best to book online on their website, you can easily search for dates when they have better prices.

sounds good and merits further investigation...

cheers... :D

also, thanks heng fer your advice...follows on with the above :D

so, Malaysian Airlines is a player with shorter travel time...gotsta look into it...was thinkin' that Lufthansa was the only viable option for business travel to BA. They were always big in the travel market for south america even from the 60s; popular with folks that had expense allowances. Back in those days when I lived in Bolivia useta haveta take the bolivian carrier LLoyd Aereo to Miami then transfer to a domestic US airline to get to california...these days can hardly manage a 6hr flight from the Gulf to BKK...one foot in the grave, I guess...

just to update...the job ain't happenin' which is a shame as I was curious about Argentina...just like I was curious about VN and Chile; wanted to see if there were any ghosts about...just as well as I need to be at home now and not gallivantin' around to satisfy curiosity...probably be lookin' fer new work after the new year...

but, this has been an informative thread and many thanks to the contributors... :)
