Thanks FarmerJoe. You answered my question.

I'm out of here before the blood letting over the 40 year age difference starts.

Everyone have a good day.

Thanks.

Not sure if you are referring to my comment/question or not? Bottom line is, you were being prescriptive on an 'ideal' scenario of age difference, and I merely needed to know the source of this recommendation, and questioned your own situation. Most of us expats have substantial differences in age with partners, but regardless of how much or little, compatibility is down to the individuals, not some 'theory'. In my case, there's 20 years by the way (56/36), and works for me very well, and really don't care about a hypothetical formula. I'm living a life, not buying a suit.

when i took girlfriend to Uk she was 24, i was 44 no problems, she got tourist visa, 2 year visa, then indefinate leave to remain all no problem. they see it every day, it is proably the way you look at the age differance and think its not right. went through same thing myself but as time goes by you never think about it.

good luck

Age Difference a problem?

Possibly in our home countrys, not so much here in East Asia and anyway only when you let get it a problem.

My personly record in age difference I witnessed and spoke to the couple was 58 years.

Girl 18,5 her mother 36, Expat 76 and the relationship was already running since some years.

However unusual and a bit unlawful, everybody seemed to enjoy the positive parts, aspects, which everybody had.

You are generally protected from age discrimination in the U.S. by federal law. I doubt that a federal employee would deny a passport or Visa based on the differences in your ages because of their frequent training on compliance with discrimination and immigration law. However, if she is under age there would be a problem.

By rule of thum, Thai thum that is :) , A Girl should be no younger than Half your age plus ten. I know mine is. :D

I read that as you the man is f.i. 66, half your age is 33 and plus ten should make your ideal lady 23! :D

Oh, by the way if anyone wonders, I am 62 and my wife 28. We live in Isaan.

Perhaps we need to start a thread who has the greatest difference between themselves and their partners (note the politically correct, non-sexist wording).

I am 50 my wife is 29 - she is wonderful company, fun, tolerates most of my 'little ways' without complaint. We row, make up, row again, make up - not very different to other relationships. I like it when people mistake her for our daughter - it does my ego no end of good and makes her laugh.

They say you are only as old as those you feel - quite right!!!

Not all women are gold-diggers. The Thai attitude to life can be a godsend to a stressed westerner. When we first went shopping in the UK together I felt a little self-conscious but as she was accepted by everyone this went quickly.

If it feels right go for it, if it does not be careful and think it through. If in doubt enjoy it at face value.

Sad how many cynical and bitter people there are out there.

Maybe I am one of a lucky few but I feel just that - lucky!!

Maybe, but this is the visa and migration to other countries forum, so not here, please.
