I am looking to order a new motor in the next month or so and at the moment the new engine Vigo is top of the list for probably 2 reasons:

Resale value - May only keep it a year to 18 months.

Fuel Efficiency - I do a fair few highway miles and they seem to have improved efficiency on this engine.

oh and also in my opinion it is the best looking pick up which has to be considered.

I don't need a 4x4 so was looking at the 2wd option, I know there have been issues with the stability of the Vigo which was a slight concern on the longer journeys but I know they have added the stability control but not sure if that makes much difference.

If I was looking longer term I would look at the Triton or maybe Ford but for short term I am thinking this is the best option (aside from Isuzu which I don't like the looks of).

Also I understand the safety is not great in terms of the airbags etc on this model but need to look into that a bit more before ordering.

Does anyone have any opinions or experience on this model and extras that they are throwing in at the moment?

Also I heard the BKK motorshow is a good time to purchase so should I hold off until then?

Thanks

Hello changnaam,

In your case the resale value is imo the strongest point. Isuzu would be the best but I can understand your disslike...

When comparing Toyota second hand models you will better stick to any kind of Prerunner or 4X4 4-door models.

Take a look at some second hand sale Thai- websites or the tends around here.

Thanks for the respose. I was looking at the Prerunner but the 4x4 2.5 is only about 25k more expensive so that might be the way forward. Went to talk to Toyota last week and they were much more forthcoming with the extras than I thought they would be. Even agreed to throw in parking sensors which I was quite surprised at. I will get the list translated and post it if anyone is interested. From memory there was all the normal stuff like bed lining, window tint, bonnet protector etc etc.

Still the stability is a bit of a concern, I don't understand what they have done to improve it so if anyone can explain that it would be appreciated.

Thanks

Here you go,

I just looked at the new 2.5 VN... But it was 1000B more for the 3.0 L... Guess what I chose...

I have to say that the lust for a pick up came a few months ago and then I just had to get rid of the Jazz... Lovely as it was... I don't need cute anymore... I need, useful...

Vigo is great (its a pick up)..

Good luck...

Ps: This is the Prerunner 3.0E... Just changed a few items on it so far.. .

Hi changnaam,

Go for it!

About the extras, in the end of the year everything is about sellingnumbers... "Car Of The Year", "Most Sold Car In 2009" and so on...

I remember times when you got 1-3 Baht gold chains for buying their cars/pickups :) .

Edit: Don't care about "Stability" as long as you are not a test driver or fill up your truck 3 meters over roof hight, you will be on the save side :D

Hi snowflake, what has the 3.0E prerunner smartcab not got that the 3.0G has (extras)

They are only listing the 3.0G at 724,000 on the website, how mush did you pay for the E

The 2.5E VNT with ABS is 673,000 so does that mean you paid 672,000.

PS what extras are they offering these days

I am guessing by 1,000B more you mean on repayments? I looked at at that and for me the 2.5 4x4 would be better than a 3.0L 4x2. Both around a similar price. I think the jump then comes if you go from 2.5 double cab 4x4 which is about THB780k up to 3.0L 4x4 which is over THB 900k.
