How To Carry A Kayak On A Mira?

Featured Replies

Hi All

Am driving a Mira for the moment and want to carry a kayak on top to the beach 3 kilometers away.

I know the Thais are very creative in making things.

Do you have any ideas how I can create an inexpensive rack for the top that is made out of foam / rubber which can easitly be removed?

Any engineers out there or do you know any shops that have materials and can help me make this work.

Thank you for your input.

A real Thai would use foam tape ... :)

Don't be silly. A real Thai would carry it on his scooter.

upcountry where foamtape is not easily available, two thais would sit on the roof and hold the kayak

on trucks i m never sure if the thais hold a fridge or hold on to the fridge

wind down both front windows and insert the kayack accross the car, then useing a floor sweeping brush to operate the throttle and brake sit in the back seat and lean over to steer the car.

please remember to video and post on utube asap I can't wait will be a classic

And when you get to a flooded road, and you put your mira on your kayak, can you put that on you tube to please. :)

Maybe just me... :D but a couple of pieces of old mattress foam-rubber and a couple of tie-down straps would do it. No real engineering involved! :)

and crossways, not parallel with the scooter!

I used the foam kayak blocks as shown in the pics to carry a 5.2m kayak on a Honda Civic. Worked fine as long as you have ties running from each end of the kayak back to the car for stability or it'll twist as you drive; Civic had towing lugs on I think the lh side so I'd sit the kayak on that side rather than middle of the car.

And don't forget the paddle!

Take out the front and rear windows. Mind Im not sure if it will fit, if not get a Saling I carry everything on mine :)

i just purchased a small trailer for the back of my scooter from The Chandlery , i carry two Kayaks no problems , its light folds away to nothing and cost about 2500 baht !! thats if you have a scooter ..Cheers
