Hi all,

I did a search for shoe maker / cobbler and got one result talking about a dogs collar being too stiff! I have two pairs of leather boots that I am rather attached to that need to be repaired. The cobblers on the street, while great for re-soles or heels are not capable of replacing the complete bottom of a shoe and re-attaching the leather upper with stitching.

Does anyone know of a competent cobbler in Bangkok? there used to be one in Naraiphand opposite Central world but since they have knocked that building down I am at a loss as to where there might be another. I live in Bang Na so if there is one in that area it would be great.

Thanks in advance.

Dave

Maybe I should have posted this request in the Ladies forum? Seems that these days on TV, mundane questions don't rate answers.

posted this to bump it as I know I rarely go past page four of the new threads.

There was a good shoemaker opposite Central World when it was called the WTC 5 YRS AGO.

Whether it's still there, not sure.

Standing outside the WTC looking across the rd, it was on the extreme right hand side.

Good luck. :)

Why not try a boot makers? There are quite a few different shops throughout Bangkok, including 2 next to the Asoke skytrain station, between the Asoke junction and the Sheraton. I have had boots made at one of these, I think it's called the Siam Bootery, and also had them do alterations on others that I'd purchased in Australia. Excellent work, but a little more expensive than a roadside cobbler.

Thanks, but that's the one I was talking about in my OP that has since been knocked down.

Thank you, that is what I am after, failing replies that put a cobbler closer to bang Na, I will give them a shot. Cheers.

:) I haven't been in that area or Sukhumvit Rd. for over 5 years.......

I must get out more. :D

Let us know how you get on at Siam Bootery as I need a special pair of shoes/boots made.

I haven't been able to wear shoes for over 6 years.

You saved me a trip to CW.

OK, I went to Siam Bootery near Asoke BTS on Friday evening and asked them to repair my two pairs of boots, gave them a deadline of Tuesday 6PM (as I fly out for Aussie Wed at 7 AM). The cost was quite high at 2500 THB per pair but I did not have the time or inclination to haggle so accepted the price and paid 3000 THB up front, they promised to deliver the boots to my workplace on Srinakarin Road in Samut Prakarn at 0830 Tuesday AM.

At 0845 this morning the courier turned up at my office with two pairs of boots, I tried them on to ensure they still fit me (the entire sole had broken so basically they had to remove the uppers and stitch them on to new sole/heel). They were a perfect fit and I was very impressed with the standard of their work.

At the end of the day they met all of my requirements and did a first class job.

Glad to hear that. I can sleep easy now having recommended the place, knowing I'm not going to get a pair of badly repaired boots come flying through my window. Looks like the price is higher than I remembered, maybe I should get a comission out of them.

Thanks for taking the time to post your experience, always helpful. Only saw this thread now but would add a vote for Ana's [sukhumvit Soi 1], though had also had good reports but nothing made there [yet] re Siam Bootery.

Hope you have a good flight.

anyone know if any of these bootmakers are capable of making a pair of custom steel toed safety shoes? anyone that has to wear them at work is aware that the 'off the shelf' variety are notoriously ill fitting and can make yer day a misery...

thanks

a few shops in Banglamphu area used to make their own shoes

there are still a couple around, one that I can think of is on the road that leads from SiYaek Kok Wua (intersection to khaosarn road, but going in the direction away from KSR). the road might be called Tanao? not sure of road name though....

what you see in their shop windows isnt the most trendy style, but the workmanship is very very good

(just saw this thread today, useless to the OP, but perhaps others that have similar need can check them out. tutsi - cant say if they do those boots)

In the UK they are called Jodhpur boots, in Aus, Stockman's boots

Any suggestions gratefully received?

7 years now & no shoes :)
