Hi

I'm going on holiday to Thailand jan.4, to april.1, and I don't think I'll be able to get a tourist visa on such a short notice, so I wondered what would be the easiest way to stay for three months?

Will I have to do visa-runs every two weeks?

And will I get any problems since I have a three-months ticket, and no visa on arrival?

I'm a 17/18 y.o. girl from Norway if that matters..

Thanks for you time.

Norwegians don't need a Visa to stay for 30 days, and a tourist Visa only lasts 60 days.. Do I need to have a 90 days Visa at the time of arrival?

cant you go to Thai embassey in Oslo and get a single entry which should give you 60 days which you can extend for 30 days. not sure but i think if you have more than 2 tourist visa back to back you have to leave country for a while. i have retirment visa but some times have problem boarding in Uk as it runs out before my return ticket. so if your visa lasts less than your return ticket they may not let you on the plane.

i know its not relevant but dont you think you should have asked this question a few months ago.

either way you will get more accurate advice from others.

I'll try that, thanks. What problems have you had when trying to board when your Visa runs out before the return ticket?

And yes, I should, but someone told me different, so I thought I had it all straight..

The airlines are responsible for ensurig you comply with visa/entry requirement. If they don't enforce it, they will have to carry you home at their own expense (which they will then bill you for) and possibly face a fine.

But if I get a 60 days tourist Visa, that I can extend for 30 days in Thailand, is that ok, or must I have 90 days at the day of arrival??

Any kind of Visa will be OK. So yes a 60 day tourist visa will work.

the retirment visa runs out April 2010 air ticket back is for August 2010, the airline were worried in case i was refused entry because the visa ran out before my return. i explained i renewed the retirement visa here every year. they then agreed to let me travel, although with the visa i do not need return ticket but when they see a visa that is going to run out before you return they can refuse boarding. i think you will find either way you will need a single enty visa that will give you 60 days plus 30 days. best give airline a call as they stand all the risk if you are refused entry.

Unfortunatley you put yourself in a spot here. You will probably not be allowed on the plane without a visa and if you are, the chances are that you won't be allowed to enter Thailand when you get there as your return ticket is 3 months away. You do need a visa and there is practically no time. The embassy in Oslo normally wants 3-5 work days and as you would be leaving on the 4th and there are the New Year holidays coming up, there is a problem.

You can apply for single, double or triple entry tourist visas and there is no fee before March 4. If you choose a double entry, you will have 60+60 days stay with a border hop in between.

Your only hope now is to go the embassy tomorrow, if you did not go today, with the required documents and explain to them and hope that they can process your visa swiftly.

I belive they are closed through out december, so I guess I'll just have to hope they can fix it in 1-2 days after that.. I think it may be possible if i get an appointment.

And for clarification, a single entry 60 days tourist Visa should be ok?

Single entry tourist visa giving you 60 day permission to stay on arrival will be fine, and are currently free. You can then extend your permission to stay for a further 30 days at Thai immigration (fee 1,900 baht). Suggest you give the consulate section at the embassy a call given tight timescales, as there appears to be little information on their website about turnaround times.

If none of the above solutions are workable does your airline allow for a change on return flight date? Followed by emailed confirmation? Then yet another change back to April whilst in country? (Then a border run to Laos for Tourist visa)

Messy idea I know but perhaps better than being refused a flight altogether. :)

another way maybe book a one ticket to Penang with Air Aisia (e Ticket) a few days before your 1 month runs out show this to immigration as proof you intend to leave the country before your one month is up. go to Penang get tourist visa then come back. cheaper than changing dates etc i think. i have thought this one through alot does anybody else think it would work.

It's more likely to be the airline that will require sight of outbound ticket within 30 days of arrival to allow boarding of flight rather than Thai immigration, so would need booking ahead of travel. But obtaining tourist visa from own country (time permitting) and then extending is the best option.

The airline may be the problem...but I have only had one airline actually ask in over 30 years of traveling to Thailand.

If they let you on the plane, you should have no problems. As a Norweigian you should be able to get a 30 day stamp on arrival. Yes, you should have a return ticket but Thai immigration rarely asks that.

Before your 30 day entry stamp expires, book a short flight from BKK to Vientiane, Laos. Get yourself a 60 day tourist visa...I believe they are still free of charge until March 2010 now...to encourage tourisim to Thailand. You will need a cheap hotel in Vientiane because it will take two days...you apply in the morning of the first day and pick it up on the next day in the afternoon. That 60 day tourist visa can be extended in Bangkok for another 30 days if needed.

That should carry you to April.

The other choice is to get a tourist visa from the Thai consulate in Oslo or wherever. A 60 day Tourist Visa should currently be free until march 2010 as I mentioned. All it would cost is the travel to the Thai consulate. I realise you are short of time now, but it could be done in two days if you visit the consulate personally...again once to turn in the application, and then return the next day to pick up the visa.

The current rules are an onward ticket within 30 days of entry or a Thai visa. Please don't comment on current Thai visa matters of which you have lamentable knowledge.
