My wife and I visited the Regent's school last year and were told that if we sent our children to the school, they would get renewable one year visas, and because our children are dependent on us, we would also be entitled to get renewable one year visas.

What are the requirements for such visas and what is the process?

Neither my wife nor I would work while living in Thailand, and we wouldn't have any revenues, though I can show some wealth.

Thank you.

500,000 baht would be required in a Thai bank account for one parent to stay with children on a one year extension of stay.

From the Police Order.

(5) In the case of parents, there must be an account deposit with a local bank made in the name of father or mother of not less than Baht 500,000 as shown in bank account transactions for the past 3 months. For the first year, it should have that said amount in the bank account for not less than 30 days at the submitted date of the application.

Thank you - is that the only requirement?

What's the process?

Has it to be started from abroad or from within Thailand, once we've paid the school terms?

What happens if the application is not processed quickly enough, and our visa (or better: permission to stay stamp in the passport) expires?

I mean only one parent is allowed. If they allow two it will require one for each child and 500k for each. But expect that it may not be allowed. The provision is designed for one parent to take care of the child during study - nor for family stay. Be very sure before commit big money.

ah, the school didn't warn us that only one parent could be allowed to stay.

luckily we have 2 children - so this may be an advantage :-)

did you hear about cases where only one parent was allowed to stay?

if only one parent is allowed, I could still study thai language (which I would do anyway).

Perhaps the school knows it will not be a problem - or they feel it is your problem. I would ask them directly before handing the cash over.

If it is a problem; yes you could plan on study visa and extensions every 90 days as many are currently using (although that appears to be under a closer watch at this time). As long as you are really doing study expect there would not be an issue and language knowledge would be useful.
