Ok boys and girls....got my visa today fed x from miami Thai consulant and to my surprise they issued a type B mutli entry. I had requested a single entry type "O" so I could convert this visa into a retirement extension visa IN LOS. This is the question: Can I convert this Type B multi visa to retirement extension as if it was the type "O" single. I think I recall something to this posted earlier in which visa had to be type "o" single. I really don't want to go back to consulant and start over here in miami. From what I can understand the only difference between these 2 visa ( type B multi and retirement extension) is with "B" i have to leave the country every 90 days which I really don't want to be mandated into doing. Keeps getting more and more interesting. Kevin

It can be any Non Imm Visa.

(1) The alien has obtained a temporary visa (NON-IM);

(2) The applicant is 50 years of age or over;

(3) Proof of income of not less than Baht 65,000 per month; or

(4) Account deposit with a bank in Thailand of not less than

800,000 Baht as shown in the bank account for the past 3 months at the filing date of the application. For the first year, the applicant should have that amount in his bank account for not less than 60 days or

(5) Annual income plus bank account deposit totaling not less

than Baht 800,000 as of the filing date of application

From several reports it appears that US based Consulates will only provide OA type visas for retirement so they gave you what they could and you can use it the same as an O visa to extend for retirement in Thailand.

No. I had the option of two visas as I have a sponsor company here in US for the type B multi but, after researching with thaivisa forum, I requested consulate to disregard that request based on discussion on these board. That being that a type "O " single entry was ness to convert in thailand. Bottom line the consulate shuffled the papaer work and i did not get what i wanted. If you are positive my type " B" multi will be treated the same as the type "O" single at the immigration offie in Chiang mai, I can rest a little easier. If anyone can chime in and back this up - great! Thanks - Kevin

Thanks again Lite - I have everthing covered from item 2-5, no problem. If you are sure that my type B multi will be treated the same as the type O single. Good. I could live with the B for about 15 months but, really don't want to be obligated to leave country every 90 days. Primary intention is to retire and I have to do the comversion IN T-Land

You don't have to wait till the visa is expired to apply for an extension of stay, so you won't have to leave the country every 90 days. Each time you enter Thailand you will get a permission to stay for 90 days max. During the last 30 days of any entry you can apply for an extension based on retirement. Don't forget you would need a re-entry permit if you then want to leave the country and keep your permission to stay alive.

yes i understand this , its just that i was under the impression that I needed a "O" single to make the conversion to "extension" IN chaing mai. Seems the type "B" multi will convert as well. TY
