babuhavas Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 Dear members i was regular at my local pub before they increased the prices,i don't want to mention name but its on silom road. now a pint on heineken is 100++ in happy hours which is till 7(but i usually go there after work so not important to me) and after 7 its 160++ also the food prices are up bye 20%. so now i am looking for new pub which can offer happy hours till 8,or may be better price than this. babuhavas
macanello Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 I guess you're talking about Molly's. Silom isn't that good for pubs really. Welington's O'reilly's etc. I don't like the atmosphere there. It all depends what you want from a pub - good social links, cheap drinks, friendly bar staff etc Soi 8 is probably the cheapest in town for happy hour - opening till 7pm everyday plus Tiger is on tap at 99 Baht all day everyday. The Crossbar on soi 23 Suk has Chang happy hour all day and Guiness two for one = 120 Baht a pint up till 7pm. Macanello
rgs2001uk Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 What area are you looking for, Silom, Sukhumvit or doesnt it matter?
niveknedwob Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 Wants CHEAP but with "familiar" atmosphere - drink at home and cook your own food. It gets scary when your local eating places raise their prices by a Baht or two - I know where you are coming from !

OxfordWill Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 I dont suppose you were the guy in the pickled liver last night complaining about a silom pub which had put its prices up and as such you wouldnt be there as a regular anymore?
babuhavas Posted January 20, 2010 Author Posted January 20, 2010 haa!! still went to my local pub today at silom, sadly not many choice.
onnut Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 Which pub are you talking about? O'Reillys has a new manager but prices are the same. Quality of food and service is getting better! Duke in boots has been sold to new people, so they could of put the prices up. But I don't think that pub has any regulars. Jamesons is so far out the way and also I can't imagine it have any regulars. Mollys has new manager and I think new owners or partners. I have not been in for a few months so don't k ow if they have put there prices up. I would be suprised if heineken happy hour is 100++ per pint. Which one could it be. I also noticed in an older post of yours that you were looking for a change of pub last year.

I go often for a drink at Silom but also don't know which pub you are talking about, has to be molly's.
onnut Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 Whistleblower, you thought wrong. Babuhavas. I do not understand why Jamesons are charging so much for heineken! That is very strange and not the way to gain new customers. O'Reillys do some good specials and have a great happy hour. Everynight there is a beer promotion so get down there and try that pub. I used to be a fan of Mollys until they changed management and now I find O'Reillys to be good. Jamesons is to far away for me, plus I do not like the decor.

Guinness – 220++ Kilkenny – 220++ Black & Tan – 220++ Half & Half – 220++ John Smiths – 220++ Stella Artois – 220++ Strongbow Cider – 220++ you will be surprised to know how much they charge for a bottle of MEGNER PEAR or APPLE(FLAVOUR) BEER its 299++ forget about getting new customers, even the regulars don't like to go there. onnut Posted January 23, 2010 Posted January 23, 2010 Magners is not a cheap drink anywhere but 299++ does take the cake. They must be very slow at the moment, maybe they though putting the prices up would help.

I used to be a regular at Jamesons and now, even if I have that "VIP Privilege" card, prices are getting too high for goods and the location. I'm sure that they make their money with the tourists staying at the Holiday Inn so don't expect much privileges as a regular expat... The Happy Hour was 4 pm to 7 pm with Tiger and Heineken at THB 75 + extra special at THB 100 until 8.30 pm, which was fine, and I never paid more than THB 100 for a pint regardless of the time of the day (as a regular). But now Happy (?) Hour is 4 pm to 8 pm with Tiger and Heineken at THB 100 (I don't know the other drinks, I only drink beer), and seems like I can't get my pint at THB 100 anymore. Totally sucks. I just walk across Silom, get a few cans of Tiger at Family Mart, and sit on the sidewalk nearby (at least I still can enjoy the free Wi-Fi).
babuhavas Posted January 24, 2010 Author Posted January 24, 2010 The manager is now coming up with new discount card for regulars, which will be 10% discount on food and drinks but this does not applies in happy hours, i mean what's the point here first he increased price by 70% and then give discount of 10%. this membership is joke,i am not going there again.
GungaDin Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 Stop whingeing, you're bloody lucky to have a bar or pub to go to. Come west and you'll die of thirst. Anyone know where the stewed ants drink near Mahidol Uni? Our local had a successful fire 3 months ago. A hole in the ground now. gd

Well, that's basically what I was saying too... Even with the freebies such as promised VIP nights with free finger food at least once a month it's still unatractive. Looks looks like Tim lost at least two regulars; let's hope for him that the Holiday Inn will have many (unaware) tourists this year! There was another (old and full of flies) pub/restaurant not far (just across the street - The Wall); and I wonder if they are still there. I'm sure that they don't have Wi-Fi for my laptop, but for a couple of relaxing beers while waiting for my ride back home this might be an option...
