After reading the closed topic my friends, this is a very suspicious case indeed. This is something we all should be made aware of especially because it can happen to anyone of us at any time.

First the report stated she had 4.2 Kilos of reefer in her opened zipper luggage bag. She did not have the dope as a carry on into the plane. This was CHECKED IN LUGGAGE.

REPEAT -----> 'CHECKED IN LUGGAGE''

4..1 KILOS IS A LOT AND THAT COMES TO ALMOST 10 POUNDS.

There is no hooters way leaving from Aussie Territory that you will be able to pass 10 pounds of reefer past the screeners and luggage screeners without setting those machines off a mile wide in AUSTRALIA!!!!!!!!!!

So she arrives in Bali and is caught with 10 pounds of the reefer ON HER BAG AT CUSTOMS CHECK POINT!!!!!!!!!!!

Now what does this mean to you and to anyone else????????????????

There is no frickin way she did it.

SHE GOT SET UP BY SOME EMPLOYEE FROM THE AIRLINE BAGGAGE SECTION WHO STUCK IT IN HER BAG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SO LET THIS BE A WARNING TO ALL PEOPLE WHO TRAVEL. UPON YOUR ARRIVAL AT YOUR DESTINATION PLEASE DOUBLE CHECK YOUR CHECKED IN LUGGAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ESPECIALLY THE ONES WHO HAVE ZIPPERS ON THEM.

ON YOUR HARDCASE LUGGAGE CHECK YOUR SECURITY TAGS CLOSELY. IF IT APPEARS TO BE BROKEN AND YOUR LOCKS LOOK LIKE THEY GOT TAMPERED WITH, PLEASE GO TO THE BATHROOM JOHN AND INSPECT YOUR LUGGAGE CLOSELY - OPEN IT AND DOUBLE CHECK TO MAKE SURE NOTHING IS IN IT ILLEGALLY. IF YOU SPOT AN ILLEGAL ITEM, DON'T TOUCH IT FIRST, GET SOME TOWEL AND THEN TAKE IT OUT AND GET RID OF IT. DON'T LEAVE YOUR FINGERPRINTS ON IT. OK. Then close your bag and get the heck out of there and go straight to customs. Don't say anything to anyone till you are out of airport grounds period.

Why would a parcel of dope cause a airport detector to register?

X rays, Metal Detectors, whatever the check in baggage went through, it would just look like a big blob - like a piece of cheese or bag of macadamia nuts.

If a sniffer dog sniffed it I suppose......

We're verging here on 'how to smuggle' though rather than ' how to protect your bags' !

Posted

Listen, the detectors today on your checked in luggage is so sensitive, it even picks up cigarettes!!!!!!!!!!!!

All bags are X-rayed. They do have drug dogs standing near the conveyor belts in various points.

No we are not talking about how to smuggle, we are talking how to protect ourselves from the unknown individuals who can RUIN YOUR LIFE IN A MOMENTS OF TIME without you knowing such ever occurred.

You know your luggage was clean as a whistle when you checked everything in and went thru all the security points without a hitch.

So why all of a sudden do you have DOPE in your luggage upon arrival??????? For most travelers, they never think of this happening to them, and if your not paying attention enough to double check your possessions, when you approach Customs Check Point, you can be in a HEAP OF A LOT OF TROUBLE AND ALSO EVEN SHITO IN YOUR PANTS WHEN TOLD YOU GOT 10 POUNDS OF REEFER HERE, ETC.

Come on folks, WISE UP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Some airports now have electronic sniffers. Some models look like a small hand held vacuum cleaner, they sniff around a cart full of luggage and then plug it into a detector that analyzes the air sample collected. Saves them from checking each individual piece of luggage. If one in the lot contains weed, it will detect it and then they'll search the luggage one by one.

I've seen this a few years ago, some places must have an automated system by now.

In most airports you first go through passport control and then you collect your baggage.

A lot of airports don't even have a toilet in this area.

And even if they have, going there with your luggage will definately make you suspicious.

Better leave your luggage altogether if you're in doubt or paranoid.

reminds me of the brit girl some years back, who was incacerated in thailand for bringing in cocaine or heroein

she admitted that she did bring some in ,but it turned out, after years of wrangling, that the police added to the amount in the case that she was carrying, it was so heavy that it wouldn,t have been poss for her to carry such a weight!so she got out of jail

Hmmmm, I wonder if anyone here is a legal beagle concerning this topic. What can one do to protect themselves if you spot suspicious circumstances involving your checked in luggage????? I sure as shito don't want some BOZO ruining my peace of mind getting me trapped with the illegal crap.

There has to be some method known as a safe avenue to protect ourselves in this kind of situation.

Believe it or not, in the Netherlands, they have a huge barrel known as the drop in box to dispose of the illegal stuff without being charged before you get to Customs. At least they give you that option if you spot something illegal in your stuff. They have huge signs all over the place advising you and even arrows pointing to where it is at. At that spot yes I remember I saw the police there and Customs watching that box. Yet some people did put things in it and still passed thru without a problem ( after Customs did check their luggage) The Netherlands also have very stiff penalties bringing in illegal dope.

I don't see that here in Thailand. I wonder why??????

No this is NOT being paranoid - this is called protecting yourself. I try and cut down my luggage to a bare minimum when I come to Thailand from Australia. I just take one bag to check-in and one small carry-on.

At Bangkok Airport as soon as my check-in luggage passes through the luggage screener the BIA screener puts on security stickers OVER it, so it is obvious if my bag is opened again before I retrieve it in Perth.

Last trip back to Australia, I travelled Royal Brunei Air. When I collected my bag from the baggage carousel at Perth Int. Airport ALL the stickers were damaged.

This was proof to me that somebody (either baggage handlers at Bankok, Brunei or Perth or some other party) had opened my bag.

Immediately I called over Airport Security and told them in no uncertain terms (but politely) that I wanted my bag opened by Australian Federal Police with me present in an interview room which was video equipped as I had nothing to hide.

I explained that I knew there was nothing illegal in my bag when I had packed it in Bangkok and now the security stickers were broken. My bag was opened and nothing illegal was discovered but it was obvious somebody had gone through my bag as I knew how everything had been packed by me.

I didn't want any nasty little (or big) surprises when I went through Australian Customs.

Can't be too careful in this day and age.

The latest news is they have just busted 10 baggage handlers in Sydney on suspiscion of smuggling drugs. George might post something in the news clipping section when more is known.

I can only say it leaves me a little nervious at the thought of checked luggage at the mercy of the baggage handlers and we fly out today, i am gonna make inquiries at check in to see if there is any way the can put a security seal on our stuff.

Bronco: Best wishes for your trip today. Hope it's a safe and unevenful one. One suggestion is to place some stickers of your own on your bag. near the handle. Use thin ones that rip easily, so you will know IF it has been tampered with.

Some Aussie airports offer a hard plastic wrapping service.

I always use something called "pacsafe"... it's a wire mesh that can be locked around your bag. If someone is determined they can still get in but it's a good deterent.

This happens. Regarding Thailand in most cases someone is convinced to take bags through, and they are then shopped in to the police. On the same flight the real drugs are passing through. Otherwise, people are talked into taking through a bag for someone else. Sounds stupid, but how aware are you all?? The guy bleow had known his travelling companion for months.

http://www.justicefornickbaker.org/index.shtml

But more importantly this shows us that in fact there are innocent people in prison. The thai prisoner Allen Davies was clearly subject to a mistrial, so much so that the uk authorities released him when he was repatriated to the UK prison service. Currenlty in Bang Kwang is a prisoner who was caught (ie shopped) with drugs at don muang - he had been told he was carrying gemstones. Stupid yes, guilty of that yes, but serving 40 years for drugs ??? It is just not right.

For Thai's, especially hill tribe women, there are so many innocents in Prison that it is an absolute mockery, but no one seems concerned - it is always this "if they are in jail they are guilty" or "well they all claim innocence..." This is just not true. Yet everyone stands by ...

Kenny Richie has spent 18 years on Death Row in the states before the 6th circuit judges deemed him innocent - something that the British parliament knew (when 90 MP's pledged their support in parliament) and even the late Pope chipped in with support. He is now waiting for release.

http://justicedenied.org/jd_issue_27_spirko.pdf

There are many, many innocent people in prison, and standing by is not an option for any educated person.

On arrival in Oz one trip my bag had been tampered with....the zip was open about three inches (I didnt have a lock on it) and the bag was slightly damaged....As soon as I picked it up I was asked to go to security for a bag check and search.

I gave the guy a right spray about the bag being damaged.....wanting to know who would pay for it.....

The search revealed nothing.....except for a plastic bottle of lemon Juice that was half full.....I had taken it with me from Oz and the sniffer dogs must have picked it up.....having seen them when they detect something it is more than likely the dog caused the damage...... :o

If you your baggage shows any sign of tampering....call security and someone who speaks your lingo....under no circumstances open it yourself....and dont touch anything....

I think it's a strange case....

Let's assume she DID NOT bring the 4.1 kilos in her handbag but that it was planted by someone else....

Anybody, carrying a handbag, man or woman, does not feel the difference in his/hers original handbag and the bag plus 4.1 kilos?

4.1 kilos is the weight of 4 bottles of 1 litre of water or juice....hmmm I would feel the difference!....and have a look inside my handbag immediately to see WHY my handbag was SO bl##dy heavy.....

Strange.

In the good old USA you are required to leave your checked luggage unlocked so they can search it. They always search mine because I always bring hardware items back to Thailand with me and these are, of course suspicious when xrayed. If you lock your luggage they will break it open if need be. I've always wondered if modern lockable suitcases are hard to open. I had some old Samsonite stuff and you could open it with just about any small key.

Posted

Ah, yes I plum forgot what they are doing in USA. If your checked in Luggage is locked security will break the locks.

Many have complained of this damage. What they don't understand is some of the luggage is pretty valuable and can go as high as 500 usa dollars for a good decent one.

Security says to passengers tough shito.

Well, now someone is going to do some suing last I heard and it will probably become a class action lawsuit.

The way security is playing with our luggage, they are reducing security outright by damaging the luggage cases.

Imagine a scenario. Ok Security busted off the locks on one luggage and passed it on down. Now inside the tombs of the luggage department, anyone can plant most anything to this luggage even a frickin bomb. Don't think that terrorists don't know this by now what the American security is doing.

Put that bag on the plane and boom or put that bag loaded with drugs from the columbian cartel or even diamonds. Easy way to transport it.

Now innocent person picks up his duds, and bingo, busted for what man?????? You name it , he got it.

Actually this security crap has gone way out of line and now threatens the peace of mind of a normal person.

I'll tell you if I saw some bozo breaking out my luggage locks, and the luggage itself costs me almost 400 dollars, you can bet I will break both of his frickin arms and poke his eyes out literally.

Why, cause security will not compensate you for damaging your goods in their so called name of security etc bull crap.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, this literally gets me pissed off. :o

Would it not be more easy to just switch the whole bag by a similar one?

Besides that I don't think any smuggler in his right mind would trust an innocent person to carry through a few kilo's unless they tip off on the innocent one in order to get the bigger load across.

I don't know if you've actually traveled through the US or not... but, once you have your luggage checked by US Customs, you can place you lock back on your bag.

I put small master locks on my luggage, I always remove them at the Customs Check, and I put my locks back on them before I let them send it down. No problem whatsoever. There are even signs that say to Unlock your baggage and that you are free to re-lock them after they are checked.

Just a little info for the uninformed/missinformed...

If someone planted drugs in a stranger's bag - how would they then get the drugs back for themselves ??? I have not heard reports of people claiming that after getting through customs they get accosted by drug dealers trying to reclaim their drugs.

It is very unlikely. The only possible advantage would be if they tipped off the authorities in order to create a diversion.

That makes sense. The prospects of finding a random patsy are mammoth.

This girl flew from BNE to SYD to get her flt to Bali.

It is suspected that she was used as a mule to Bali.

Not so.

A baggage handler at BNE was suspected of using her bag to ship the grass to SYD.

Not onward to Bali.

Someone screwed up in SYD and did not collect the bag/grass as planned, consequntly the grass went on to Bali with the girl.

Indo customs and SYD airport screwed up as their video machines were not working, so no video evidence.

Indo customs did not check the weight of the bag at BNE (check-in) and compare it to the arrival wt at Bali.

She is between a rock and a hard place with a "justice" system in Indonesia that sucks.

She will be found guilty and get a long sentence and our gov't will do a swap in a few years with Indonesia.

I hope I'm wrong and she goes home to Aus.

Use colored electrical ties on your zippered bags, pull them tight to make it hard to cut.

Trim off any excess length.

Draw the attention of the check in person to this and ask them to verify that you have secured your bag/s and make a note of their name, it will be on their badge.

It only takes less than a minute to do this. :o

Johnno ... why wouldn't she notice the boards weight increase ? It was said she often took the board abroad and would be familiar with its feel.
