Strange how there was no press release highlighting another recent survey that placed Thailand outside the top 100 in a Quality of Life index published by International Living magazine.

Of course not. It's not exactly something to boast about or proud of, is it?

..and the "achievement " of coming in at 9th most dangerous country out of 196 - see other thread on the subject.

Perhaps Swedish tastes and preferences are skewed towards the offerings of Thailand?

Sweden has an almost insignificant population of 9million, so what does the award mean in terms of the big picture? I don't mean that in a negative way as I am sure that Swedish people are important in their own way, but it's the heavyweight populations of Germany, France, Italy & the UK that count.

Here is a running thread:

Foreign Tourists Urged To Stay Away From Bangkok pages_icon.gif 12 Countries issue travel warning

I guess when people are urged to stay away you go to the top of the list. That actually makes sense in the world we are living in.

It could be added that in 2008 (latest year with full year sums available) there were as many arrivals from Sweden as there were from France, and more than twice as many as from Italy. (Source: http://www.tourism.go.th/2009/en/statistic...rism.php?cid=25 )

One might also make a case for seeing all of the Nordic countries (i.e. Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden) as a single "source market", which would make it as large as UK and much larger than any of the other European countries (or USA or Australia, for that matter).

/ Priceless

"Travel news".

Lived in Sweden for 36 years, never heard of it.

Agree ... and i can add a few years to your 36 also. :)

Maybe neither of you were in the travel industry? "Travel news" is a publication aimed at travel agents, hotel management, airlines etc. It is a sister publication of "Vagabond", which is aimed at the general travelling public.

Total "puff piece". Obviously the writer and editor are complementary members of Pegasus paid for by TOT. All those free trips paid off except no one reads the rag. I guess anywhere is better than Sweden in the winter. I think the beach on the coast of the Gaza strip came in second.
