I know that a Non-B on extension tied to a Work permit that is canceled automatically cancels the Visa too and forces on to leave the country on the same day etc.

But what if one has a Non-O, on extension, from the Visa one stop center (BOI company), but the work permit is canceled this week from leaving the company and going to another. Do I still have to exit the country right away and get a new visa or can I remain here until the extension is up for renewal?

The kind of visa is not important, important is on what kind of extension you are here. If the extension is based on work you have to leave the country. If the extension is based on living with a Thai wife, you can stay.

You seem to be going to another company. You can get a 7 day extension from immigration when you lose your job. Have your new employer prepare all the documents and if you can get the new WP during this week you go back to immigration and ask for an extension based on your new employer.

Well, I am not sure what the extension is for per se, as it was done via the one-stop center due to the company being a BOI etc and I cannot read Thai...but I suspect it would be due to being employed.

Doesn't the company need the actual work-permit to cancel it btw?

I cannot find anything in my passport that signifies as to the reason of the extension, only that I have the extension and a multi-reentry permit on-top of that.

Do the cancellation of the work permit yourself and afterwards go to immigration to get a 7 day extension. Take a letter from your employer stating the date when your employment finishes with you.

So if my previous employer emails me and says it is now canceled, while i am sitting with in in my hand, there is no easy way for me to know if it is indeed canceled and if that took out my VISA with it?

Always do the cancellation yourself. If your former employer notifies the labour office it is canceled and doesn't tell you, you would indeed be in a mess. But your employer probably legaly can't fire you without informing you, so you would still be employed.

Well, I asked to resign and then an email came saying it was canceled.

How can I (or a policeman or immigration at the border) know if my extension is valid from the stamp or writing in my passport? I.e. if it is tied to the work-permit etc...even though I told them I did not want to alter it to a Non-B and wanted it linked to the bases of marriage etc...and words that it would be.

Normaly immigration doesn't know, and you have to go to immigration with a letter from your boss stating the employemnt has ended. Not doing so could result in problems in the future if they find out.

If your extension was based on marriage or not is easy to tell, did you go with your wife and dd you have to go back after 30 days. if not, it was not an extension based on marriage but on employment.

So I am to assume it has canceled the extension? Is this something that will flag up on embarking to Malaysia very soon (on a quest to get a new VISA) and overstay-money to be payed? I might be able to feign ignorance since I have stamps, extension-slip and work permit in my hand...

I asked the company and they said it was 'the norm' that the company sent in the paperwork to the BOI and immigrations and not the employee etc. Right or not, they never listen to anyone that says anything differently so I don't aspect them to say anything else that whatever they did is the way to do it...

Not sure if they send it to the BOI, as that is labour and immigration together. Normally immigration will not find out, but technically you are on overstay at 500 baht a day with a maximum of 20,000. To avoid future problems it might be wise to just pay the fine. That is all there is to it.

If this had happened a week later it would be fine since it would be after salary. As it did not, money is indeed more than a small issue. :)

In anyway, now I just have to figure out if there is any way to confirm once status of the extension/Visa without/before actually going to the border for the flight...
