Three young men arrested on Walking Street as they threaten foreigners with a fake hand gun.

At 2.30 am on Wednesday morning, Police Officers on patrol on Walking Street were alerted by a number of concerned foreigners about three men who were apparently running through the street, one of which appeared to be carrying a hand gun. Immediately the three suspects were found and detained. They were taken to the Traffic Police Box at the start of Walking Street along with the gun which was in fact a cigarette lighter. The three aged between 16 and 18 told officers that they bought the gun as a joke and decided it would be funny to point the fake weapon at foreigners walking along the street. The officers clearly did not see the funny side of their actions and decided to fine each of them 100 Baht and told them to go back to their homes.

Imitation Guns including BB Guns

It is illegal to carry an imitation gun in public and police have been making the consequences clear.

"FAKE GUN USERS RISK BEING SHOT"

Even trained officers police have great difficulty distinguishing these guns from actual firearms and have to act as if they are real. There is a real risk of an offender being shot by armed response officers who are unable to establish the exact nature of the weapon. The fear felt by members of the public on being confronted with an imitation gun can be just as great. Valuable time and resources are being used up when armed response teams have to be sent to incidents involving fake guns.

100 Baht and possiblly the confiscation of the lighter come fake pistol along with the ciggies.

Pretty lucky for them and I sypathise with frightened potential targets.

Rule number 1 treat any fire arm pointed/aimed at you as loaded.

Someboby had a cool head to recognise and bring this one under control.

Fox NEWS today police shot and killed a teenager who stole a vehical and made a run for it when eventually stopped by police. This was in the States.

This is certainly a serious subject, yet there appears to be a paucity of response, to what I believe to be serious subject: That is; the use of hand guns for defence.

In most countries, such use is illegal, no bad thing, but for those vulnerable groups, such as myself: (elderley) and other socially disadvantaged persons, disabled, retarded, women, vulnerable etc. the issue of handguns must be addressed. People kill people not the guns.

I have carried a concealed gun for the last twenty years, I feel safer for doing so and have only once needed to use it once in the U.S.A.

I favor a revolver. There is simply no pistol that can come close to the reliability of a revolver.

The .357 magnum being the revolver of choice it also accommodates the .38 special cartridge. I recommend various ammo. The unjacketed round nose for important targets.

I would like to hear from fellow, 'Kings of the Castle' when it comes to firearms it is important to take a non-alarmist view, the kids can mess around with drugs and pistols, but when it comes to blowing the cranium of an intrusive burglar, then only a revover will do.

Then you are a murderer. :o

This is not a pro / against discussion about guns.

Keep it thailand related or it's closed.

I wish to keep this within the confines as Darknight has stipulated. It's too easy to buy a cigarette lighter look alike fire arm or a pellet gun here in Thailand let alone the Black Market for the real thing.

SAFETY IS THE ISSUE

A proven demonstation is a poly coffee cup placed on a lighting stand on a film set weapon 1) was a pellet type pistol from 2 metres blew the bottom of the cup. Proves it can pierce the skin or definately severely damage your eye or even lose it.

2) Was a double blank charged modified handgun this is done on film sets to get the flash effect captured on film when the weapon discharges. Same thing blew the cup to bits.

These examples were shown as an example for weapon safety on film sets.

The reason being unless the actor/stuntman is firing a weapon he will have a plastic replica or a real modified one for close up shots.

Back to our pranksters Yes it is a vey serious issue and there is NO JOKING involved.

THE NUMBER ONE RULE IS TREAT ALL FIREARMS WHETHER REAL OR FAKE AS LOADED. GUNS KILL and Handguns are hard to distinguish between the real and the replica Lighter or pellet I don't care. In the hands of an inexperienced user the pellet gun can be dangerous possibly lethal if fired towards a child.

Thailand a couple of years ago possibly 3 a falang had a modified pellet gun from plastic to ball bearing type projectiles. Thought it was cool to walk around with the weapon and yes it is a weapon and show off discreetly in bars.

He got into a confrontation one night. He was killed by the real weapon from the opposing arguer.

Again it's no joke I would imagine Mr. Mrs. and possibly children frightened having what would seem a fire arm pointed at them.

Just to end. IMAGINE and that is what I mean IMAGINE sitting in a bar a guy reaches behind or inside his waist band a pulls out what looks like a fire arm in the darkened night spot or daylight for that matter lights his cigaratte puts the lighter come fake looking fire arm on the bar. Hey he's a smoker this is his lighter of choice.

Now your outside and 3 youths and who cares where they come from they think it's a great joke to see people Tourist or Thais once again who cares where they come from but in this case were in Thailand.

Dive for cover protect your loved ones for the experienced depending on how close you are do you disarm our pranksters.

VERY LUCKY AGAIN ON THE PRANKSTERS PART NOT TO HAVE BEEN SHOT BY THE POLICE.

SAME WITH THE PRANKSTERS TARGETS WHO COULD HAVE HAD A REAL OR PELLET TYPE WEAPON AIMED AND DISCHARGED BECAUSE IF THEY WERE CLICKING THE LIGHTER THEY WERE FIRING THE WEAPON.

I BET THE PERSONS ON THE END OF THE BARREL WILL EVER FORGET THIS EXPERIENCE.

NO JOKE VERY SERIOUS.

IT LOOKS LIKE A GUN IT IS A GUN TAKE EVASIVE PROTECTIVE ACTION.

RIDICULOUS PUNISHMENT

500 TO 600 HOURS COMMUNITY SERVICE TO SAY THE LEAST. NEVER THE RIGHT TO HOLD A FIRE ARMS LICENCE AND POSSIBLE DAILY REPORTING TO THE POLICE STATION OR PAROLE OFFICER AND SOME SERIOUS YOUTH AIDE COUNCELLING.

Does NRA stand for No Rednecks Alive?

Natural selection slowly doing it's work. :o
