Hi,

im currently in thailand on a 30day exemption stamp.

Now im facing a major sickness which requires medical treatment. Painkillers, antibiotics etc.

I might not be able to fly out of the country when my stamp expires.

What options do i have?

There is a provision to obtain an extension from Immigration if you are unable to travel because of illness. Have a word with your doctor and Immigration.

The Rule.

2.25 In the case of medical

treatment or convalescence or to look after a patient:

Permission will be granted for a period of not more than 90 days at a time.

(1) Confirmation and request has been made by a physician

responsible for the treatment. The Physician must describe the details of treatment and advised that the illness is a barrier for travelling.

If you are seeing a doctor at a major hospital, Like Bumungrad, they will have liaison with immigration and can assist you with getting an extension.

I got one of these and got a letter from three separate hospitals/doctors and brought them to immigration. I was still given the 3rd degree and had to see their on-site doctor/medic and convince him I needed to stay in Thailand (my condition was not visible to the naked eye).

So make sure your ducks are in a row and you have notes from a reputable doctor and/or you have a serious illness that is obvious upon seeing you.

I was also told there are liason's with the major hospitals but was not necessary in my case.

Good luck with the extension and hope you get better soon as well.

The sign at reception at St. Louis Hospital says "if you need a doctors letter let us know."

Need to make sure the "doctors letter" is full and complete and explains the need to extend your stay in Thailand, and that you (may not/can not) come to Immigration yourself to plead your case for extension.

A "doctors letter" is often just for missing a day or few from school or work.
