My last day of work is Sunday 28-Feb. I went to the immigration office this AM to attempt to cancel my extension of stay. I had a letter from my company stating that my final day is 28-Feb. The immigration folks said I needed to provide a tax document from the company (not my personal pay stub, but a company level tax doc) to process the cancellation. I will not be able to get this doc today (Fri).

I am planning on flying out on Sunday 28-Feb and then reentering Thailand a week later to enjoy 3 weeks at the beaches before returning back to my home country. This reentry would have been on a 30 day tourist stamp at the airport since my work visa extension would have been cancelled. Given that this will not be cancelled should I 1) ask for a tourist stamp at the airport when I return (and probably cause lots of confusion 2) Get a "Tourist Visa" while I'm in a neighboring country next week (and again probably cause confusion) or 3) Reenter on my uncancelled extension of stay.

If you don't have a re-entry permit your extension will be cancelled when you exit Thailand, so this could be the easy fix :)

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

As you realize, your extension of stay based on working should be canceled by immigration on or before your last day of employment. At this point in time make your planned trip, do not enter a visa/re-entry permit number on your arrival form, and make certain that the immigration officer gives you a 30 day entry stamp upon return. That is the best you can hope for unless you are willing to postpone your trip.

I know Thailand don't like foreigners but i newer saw something like this. :)

May if you stay outside of Thailand your brain is more cear and you can think about, if you need a visa an when of what kind?

I had an extension that was not able to be canceled by the Immi at the airport (they don't have the power to cancel any extension even with papers). So the big lady in uniform said "Just get your other visa outside, come back and cancel the extension when you are back here".

At the Malaysia embassy, i got a non-0 single entry (for my new work permit) while the extension in the passport is still valid for another 5 months. Embassy counter lady acknowledge the extension while checking my papers but said nothing.

Entered Thailand, the Immi at the airport acknowledges (stamped used) my visa and said nothing of my valid extension although he noticed it. So i have 3 months now before i go for an extension on my new work permit.
