PATTAYA: -- Hotels and condominiums in Pattaya have been told to strictly record the names and identification of foreign guests and file reports with the Immigration Police, or face legal action.

Acting on a new crime prevention policy, Chon Buri and Pattaya police are tackling illegal entry and overstays along with gangrelated crimes conducted by foreign syndicates, deputy provincial police chief Lt Colonel Phanomphrai Jakkaraphas said.

Those failing to submit weekly customer registration reports would be subject to a prison term and/or fine, he added.

This law has been on the books for some time and not necessarily enforced in the past. It is just an update of previous law.

Does this apply to shop houses as I know several people who rent rooms out in shop houses and say that the regulation does not apply to them as they rent out four rooms or less.

I seem to recall that it is the responsibility of the forego visitor to report their movements daily to Immigration - where the visitor stays in a hotel or similar the responsibility is passed to the hotel owner. If that's the case then someone has responsibility to make the report regardless of the number of rooms in the building.
