If a child born to a Thai women ( Now a British citizen) and British husband, wants to travel to Thailand and maybe stay for a year or so what is required?

I expect the child would need a British passport but what about visas? What type would be required and how long could they both stay?.

I know the wife can enter on her Thai passport and stay as long as she likes, what about the child?.

Also, is it possible to apply for Thai passport for child?

Cheers.

Take your childs birth certificate to the Thai Embassy there and ask for a Thai birth certificate.

Once you have that, apply for the childs Thai passport. Both you and your wife will need to be there to apply for the passport.

This is a routine thing for the embassy. You shouldn't have any problems with it.

Apply for a birth certificate and at the same time apply for a Thai passport. You can download the forms from the embassy website. As stated above, you will need to go there in person. But believe one of the spouses can just apply, as long as the other has co-signed the forms. (more info on the embassy website)

Once you have the Thai passport you leave he UK on either one, enter Thailand on the Thai passport and leave Thailand on the Thai passport, on return to the UK show the British passport.

At check-in at the airport you will need to present both passports, to show no visa is needed for either countries.

What Mario2008 has said is about correct for the USA also, but. When our daughter tried to leave the USA last time for a stay of 3 months in Thailand the airline said she needed a visa and would not let her board. That was with the USA passport. She then showed her Thai passport they let her board because she does not need a visa for Thai person.
