I've got a 1 year ED visa - issued in the U.K. Its 'good for multiple journeys'.

I understand that it's normally possible to apply for a 3 month extension at immigration with a letter from my school .

However my visa is clearly stamped 'NO EXTENSION OF STAY' ' at the bottom.

Is this normal? Or does it mean I have to exit the country every three months?

Are there different kinds of ED visa in this respect?

If anyone could clarify this for me - much appreciated.

It is normal to inform you that you can not get an extra 30 day extension as for a tourist visa. Any entry can be extended by Immigration with the proper paperwork for extension of stay. But the visa itself only allows 90 day stays before you are required to leave - but you may immediately return for a new 90 day stay.

If you intended to extend with a school letter all you needed was a single entry visa.

Hi with ED VISA no need to do Visa Run just everry 90 days you have tou report you at immigration paid 1900 baht for extension no

If you ask for an extension of stay from immigration that is. But he has a multiple non-ED, so instead of asking for an extension of stay he can also just do a border run every 90 days.

You have to qualify with school paperwork to obtain extensions of stay (each time). It is not automatic.

Ok got it - Thanks to all

Here in Phuket the immigration captain tests you, if you are not up to scratch you get 1 more 3 months, if no improvement your visa is revoked.

Thanks for the heads up. I've read about this new policy in this forum.

I'm not too worried about it, in spite of the poor teaching methods at my school (they have not covered the requisite material) I reckon I have picked up enough thai to pass it. However if I hadn't I might be concerned as many other people apparently are. I think schools have an obligation to their students in this respect. If students have attended diligently for a period of 3 months and cannot pass a very basic test along the lines of, 'what's your name' 'where do you live' 'what thai food do you like' I think this is pretty shocking! Something is clearly wrong with the teaching methodology... I'm about to switch schools and opt for private lessons, maybe this test will shake the market up a little and ultimately be a good thing... Anyway I think there's another thread running on this maybe I'll copy this reply there.
