Dentist Advice

Featured Replies

Hello. I'm an Englishman in Taiwan and, much as I hate to conform to a national stereotype, I have some dental problems. I need my wisdom teeth extracted and maybe a few fillings. My problem is that here in Taiwan, dentists don't use any general anaesthetcs, only local. I am a pussy and I cannot stand the thought of being awake during any of this.

So, I was hoping some of you may be able to i) confirm that Thai dentists would be happy to knock me out for wisdom teeth extraction, ii) give me some idea of price and whether it would be possible to just make an appointment and turn up, and iii)recommend any good English-speaking dentists.

Thankyou for your kind help.

I am in Bangkok at the moment for lots of dental work. I too am a big sook when it comes to needles and pain. Originally I asked to be sedated but they must have forgot (a thai thing). The reputable clinics won't put you to sleep via general or IV sedation. It is too risky. However the hospital dental clinics probably will. It depends on how bad you teeth are impacted. I had mine out in the chair may years ago. In Oz they take them all out under general or one side per visit in the chair for simple ones. I'm going to the bangkokdentalhospital in ThongLor. I have high praise for the Dentists there (I have seen 4 so far).

In recent memory there was a long thread on the topic with discussion of where and which dentists would do this. In short, definitely not all but yes, some will. Do a search (try: pain+dentist+anethesia or sonething like that) on this forum. It was a maybe 3-6 months ago if I recall right.

Other poster right in saying you shoud try the dental dept of a hospital as good clinics will balk at putting you under and you wouldn't want a bad one to do so!

Bangkok Hospital's dental office will put you under with nitrous oxide...although they need to be pushed a bit to do it.

I had a serious infection from a tooth that decided to go south on me. Went to my dentist and he said off to the hospital you go. I went to Chiang Mai Ram in Chiang Mai which also has a dental clinic. After 6 days on antibiotics I had 6 teeth extracted (that's all I had for uppers). The bill 6 nights in the hospital , medications doctor and dentist, and yes anesthesiologist put me under for the extraction came to 74,000 baht. I highly recommend Chiang Mai Ram and their excellent dental clinic.

payathai hospital in sriracha will do it, had mine out theyre under local anaesthetcs but i did ask about being put to sleep and they said i could if wanted to, from memory was around 10 000 baht to be put asleep and have them out. they were very good there also, had a gorgeous young thai lady do it for me too.
