This site is a great resource, but I remained confused about the using the Multiple Entry Visa. As I understand it is good for a year, with requiring being out of Thailand once every 90 days minimum. What is the requirement for re-entry? Do you need to go back to your own country (in my case, USA) and get a new stamp for Multiple Entry Stamp or can you simply hop across the border and get a fresh 90 days upon re-entry? Also, I am self-employed and simply plan to work a little bit and remotely from Thailand - does that make the Multiple Entry Visa more difficult to obtain? Thanks in advance.

Hop across the border Cambodia, Laos, Burma or further afield if you like. You can do a border run to Cambodia, vans leave everyday from Bangkok about 9 hours return, they have the visa form for you you need only your photo, cost $2,000 Bhat, you are there for one hour. Many Phillapina workers on tourist visas do this every 14 days.

You are unlikely to get a Non Imm Multi Entry Visa in the US unless you have Thai family or employment in Thailand etc.

If you did manage to get one, it gives multiple entries of up to 90 days each entry. You need to cross the border, turn round and come back again to get another 90 days.

This can be stretched to 15 months by doing a border run just before it expires.

hi,

Technically, if you are going to be working in Thailand, even informally, you need a workpermit. When in possetion of a work permit you will not be required to leave the country every 90 days, but can simply do a 90 day address report at immigration instead.

I gather that you will be doing something fairly innocuous, so you could probably fly under the radar tho. Otherwise, all info above on the exit and re-entry aspect are absolutely correct.

Another option is to pay a visit to your nearest honorary Thai consulate in the States and request a Tourist visa PLUS 2 reentries. The first one is good for 60 days and can be extended for 30 day within Thailand, then you will have to cross the border, come back over and you are good for another 60 days, which can be extended 30 more days and so on. A tourist visa plus 2 entries will give you a total of 9 months in Thailand. You could then go to Lao and get another tourist visa. Even if they only gave you one it would still be good for 60 days plus 30 days bringing you to 1 full year. :)

Just keep in mind that you cannot work legally on a tourist visa, so anything you do with this type of a visa needs to be done under the radar. Unless you are planning on working for a Thai company you can forget about getting a valid WP, so the tourist visa may be good for you in the short term.

A work permit does not allow you to stay in Thailand. You must still leave at the end of your visa permitted to stay stamp unless you qualify for and obtain an extension of stay from Immigration. Many people holding work permits do not qualify.

Is your company registered in the States and a legal entity? If so then you can file for a "B" Visa there and just make your business here an offshore subsidiary, all that is required for your visa in that case is to write a letter on your company letter head to the Consulate regarding your intentions to do business here and then the visa will be granted on that letter of intent.. Then with work permit in hand all you need to do is 90 report...

He will not have a work permit in hand in such a case. And even if he had a work permit you are not allowed to stay longer than 90 days on a visa entry.
