Your mate needs to tell them he thought they wanted him to come to the station to compensate him for scratching the car and damaging the mirrior, but decided he would just let them mail him the check since they had his address, but then realised he had moved, so he is here now to collect his license and check for the damages.

Is he an English Teacher? Backpacker? high powered Exec?

How much clout does he have?

Assuming it was his Civic and He drove it to his home. Fair to say, he's probably "tommy trucked" by now anyway.

He is not a teacher. The car is a company car. He is a medium level exec. Thai missus and kid. Not realy connected. I have a mate who's family are police so I might ring him for advise.

Any update ?....considering the info above Re company car and traceability of said co car....if he hasnt been sprung by the BiB by now, chances are he wont be..

On a cautionary note, considering how stupid this guy has been and how much trouble he is in, I would be careful that you don't find yourself an accessory after the fact, assuming that such a thing exists in law here. He needs to be dealing with a well-qualified- and probably very expensive- LAWYER from now on. If he's not running for the airport right now, that's pretty much his only sane choice.

No sympathy though- in a country where public transportation is so easily available, no excuse for anyone to be driving drunk (I also imagine that as the story comes out, your friend's company is going to be less than amused for one of their vehicles to have been involved in this incident). No excuse for not paying attention to the road (especially in a country with roads like this!)- and running after giving up his license really takes the cake. They would be right to make an especially harsh example of your friend. He'll be extremely lucky if he only winds up shelling out millions of baht and avoids jail time.

Actually we told the lawyer to nick off as his fee of 50k just for representing him, with no promises seemed a little vague. I just spoke to my mate who's uncle is a cop and he is looking into the situation. As we don't know which station the polce are from it could take a while, unless the guy was seriously hurt.

I think he dreamt it and now will walk into the police station and confess to something he dreamt about after seeing a movie late at night...

I think put your money where your mouth is. If he dreamt it I buy you a case of lager. If he did not, you pay for the repair of the car. Deal?

There is an arguement that people should take responsibility for their actions.

No sympathy for this guy.

Agreed. Take some responsibility.

There hasn't been much talk here about the state of the guy who got knocked.

Any sympathy for him out there for him?

That is the person who deserves sympathy

No, that is ok, I don't drink much beer.

But I also think that if the policeman was seriously hurt the other police officers wouldn't just escort the vehicle back to the station and then not allow him, a drunk and stressed farang in a car, to out-run them!

Sounds oddly unprofessional even for the BiB.

Just got off the phone with my mate who's uncle is a cop. He located my mate's driver's licence. The police were from a station close to the intersection of rama 4 and Sukuhumvit. The guy that got hit is not hurt. Well, not badly anyway and has asked for compansation in return for the driver's licence and no recriminations.

I must say I am surprised at the amount quoted.

To make it interesting I will give a bottle of red to the person who can get closest to the figure mentioned.

Your mates gonna have to do some serious shoe kissing when he comes face to face with the copper he hit. If all he keeps his cool and genuinely is humble and generous with gifts $$$ then he might put this behind himself and they all end up friends............... If this goes to court it could get very messy and my only guess is it will get more expensive either financially or with hard time the longer it goes unresolved.

B2000 ..

Come on do tell... the guy was lucky whatever the cost, this could so easily have resulted in jail time. Hope he has learnt a valuable lesson... Never hit a cop when you are drunk driving !! :)

On a serious note - He should have learnt his lesson - No drink driving - Simple to stick to if you are socially responsible.
