On March 24th, I applied for a 7 day extension on my visa. It says that it was denied, but that I had until the 31st to leave Thailand. If I leave Thailand on April 1st instead, will it be any different than any other time I overstayed my visa and paid the 500 baht? I just don't get why they said that my request was denied, but I was still allowed to stay seven more days. I've overstayed my visa a few times, and I don't know if it was one time too many or if it's just the same and all I woudl have to do is pay the 500 baht again. Thanks.

It's always like that when applying for the 7 day extension.

Actually, there is no such thing. You apply for an extension, get refused, and then are given 7 days to gather your belongings and leave :)

Practically, you just get an extra 7 days!

If you leave on the first, through the airport, you will receive the little overstay stamp but will not have to pay.

If you leave through a land border you will have to pay the 500 Baht overstay!

There is no 7 day extension of stay - but they do allow 7 days after a refusal for a person to clean up. So in the event you do not qualify for an extension of stay you make application and that gives you an extra 7 days before you have to leave. Most people call it a 7 day extension of stay but (officially) it is really not an extension.

If you qualify for a normal 30 day extension of a tourist visa or one year for other reasons they are not normally declined (although at times extra material may be required).
