I am currently here on a Non-B extended on the grounds of marriage and am employed with a work permit. In the not too distant future I will be retiring. My question is will I be able to continue extending my stay on the Non-B visa or will it be necessary to leave the country and obtain another type of visa. Thanks in advance.

It would appear that you are Extending your Permission to Stay on the grounds of having a Thai Spouse.

Nothing to do with a B Visa. That died long ago.

You can continue extending your stay the same as you do now.

If you are retiring than your work permit will no longer be valid. To get a new Non-B in SE Asia you will need a letter from a company that they will employ you or a work permit.

I think you may have to change your visa to a Non-O based on marriage and then get an extention of stay based on marriage as before.

Wrong. A visa is nothing more than a permit to travel to Thailand and ask for permission to enter. Once inside Thailand the visa is no longer valid, unless it is a multiple entry visa.

When admitted in Thailand, you get a permission to stay. It is this permission to stay which is important and is being extended. The extesion can be given for various reasons, like working, marriage or retirement. He only changes his reason of stay and doesn't need a new visa for that.

If he applies for another "Extension of Stay" before the current one expires, he will not need another visa, and after retirement, will not need the work permit.

Sorry, didn't see that you were responding Mario.

Actually this is nice to know. I will not be retiring for a few years yet but often wondered about this point.

For what ever reason, the Thai Consulate in Brisbane stamped my passport with a "B" Multiple entry Non Immigrant Visa. I was retired at the time and applied for a Retirement Visa when I arrived in Thailand. It was approved and that has continued for the past 7 years.

Only have to report to Immigration every 3 months.

I also had to renew my Passport last year and my "B" was transferred or at least recorded into my new passport, along with all of my previous retirement visa's. This was all done overnight at the Jomtien Immigration Office.

If your "B" Visa is stamped "Multiple Entry" "Non Immigrant" you will not have to renew it.

Hope this is of help to you.

You applied for an extension of stay for retirement (not a visa). Your original visa can be single entry or multi entry - it makes no difference for an extension of stay - any travel one an extension of stay requires a re-entry permit to maintain that extension.
