Anyone Know What Type Of Jeep This Is?

Recommended Posts

It haves maybe Jeep Papers, but its all customized. There are (green) Pick Up Truck Plates on this Jeep, not sure it wil be considered as a Pick Up Truck if you have to check it by the "Transpo Office". Doesn't look so bad. But what price they asking? i guess it isn't cheap.

I think it did start off a 1969 Jeep (probably Ameican) as I can see that it has a Dana 44 offset rear differential. Very modified. The ad says the previous owner put about one million baht into it so imagine it won't be cheap.

It's a 1969 military Jeep Willys chassis etc. modified to a contemporary look and it is quite an attractive concept they did decent job as long as you have a co-driver to read your gauges for you while you drive..

^Actually it might be quite a bit easier to exit if you are stuck against a rock or something and couldn't open a conventional door, not so good if you rolled over however..

Very customised Civilian Jeep see Wiki:here. probably a CJ-5 from the year. You might get better details from the dealer if they have the blue book.

The green text on white background on the license/number plate just means it's taxed as a two door vehicle not to do with 'pickup status'. Lower tax than four door 'car'.

The "Villys" is just a typo from Willys (Link) Jeeps which were the military version till 1965. A common Thai mistake.

One point that would concern me is that for such a fancy car there is no picture of the engine bay (that I could see on that site) - is the engine a problem? Has the blue book been updated with the change etc?

What price are they asking?

HTH.

Didn't have CJ 5 then, the '5' in CJ is in reference to the model evolution.. It lists as 1969.....Vietnam era........Personally I think "Villy " is an intentional adaptation of the name to go along with it's heavy modification but I could be wrong..

I stand corrected, they did make the CJ-5 at that point so very possible..

From the article in the mag it looks like a well put together vehicle. It's running a 2L-T Toyota turbo diesel engine.

And yes it is a civilian model jeep as a military model would have independent rear suspension.

those are 100% toyota axles under there, no question about it.... the more you look at it, i dont think it was ever a jeep.. looks like a body kit dropped onto a toyota lj78 body, wich would explain the interior and engine/suspension/axles all being toyota

If it is a 69 model it would be a FJ45 like the photo below.

So just out of curiosity then if it is a Toyota and not a Jeep and given the registration issues here then how can it be sold as a Jeep at all Toyota axles and other bits not withstanding? It has to be on a Jeep chassis to be sold as a Jeep and the ad clearly states 1969 Jeep.. This same sort of discussion has been thoroughly trashed in the Kit car thread and others.

It's my understanding that Toyota has the Willys rights in the Asian market. My friend has a military jeep made by Toyota and it has Willys stamped into the hood (bonnet for you UK guys). So it is a Toyota Willys Jeep.

I agree with you on the jeeps being produced by toyota, as well as ford, am general, and a whole list of others.. This was done inorder to keep up w military demand during ww2 and pretty much all conflicts that jeeps were used in,, I have a m38 pics are on here somewhere anyways,, I think the frame ect are from a parado lj 78, I would wager its not a fj45 as that's a leafsprung rig, the one for sale is a coil sprung suspension and it looks terribly simial to the factroy suspension and mounting locations, bracketry ect
