I was wondering if anyone can please shed some light on this:

I'm currently in the process of changing from a non-imm B to a Non- Imm O (marriage). My non - imm B is valid for a year (no visa runs required).

I was under the impression that I would be bale to change over without leaving Thailand but was told oday that I would need to leave the country to apply for the new visa.

I have a WP (that's attached to the Non-imm B visa) so I was also told that I would need to get my current employer to cancel the visa and WP first

Would anyone be able to confirm (especially with regards to leaving the country)?

cheers

It would appear that you have a 12 month Extension of Stay based on your employment. Not a Non B Visa.

When you next apply simply apply on the basis of having a Thai Wife.

When your Employment finishes so does your current extension.

You can work with an Extension based on Marriage if you wish.

You can also apply for a 60 day Extension at Immigration for the reason of visiting your Wife if you need a bit more time to get sorted.

Hi LB

Thanks very much. So once my current extension is cancelled by my current employer, doesn't that also mean that my original Non-Imm B is also cancelled? or is it only the extension that's cancelled?

Do you also mean that I can apply for the new extension/visa without leaving the country (but only for up to 60 days?)

thanks very much

On the day your employment finishes your permision to stay ends. You have to leave the country on that day or apply for a 7 day extension at Immigration 1,900 Baht.

Your Non Imm B Visa died months if not years ago.

Being married to a Thai Lady means that you can apply for a 60 day extension to visit her.

This would give you time to sort out your paperwork and finances to apply for the 12 Month Extension of Stay based on your Marriage. It is not a Visa.

2.24 In the case of an alien

visiting a Thai spouse or child:

Permission

will be granted for a period of not more than 60 days at a time

(1) Proof of relationship.

(2) In the case of a spouse, their marital relationship shall be de

jure (legitimate) and de facto.

1. It appears that your Non "B" visa has expired and been replaced with an extension of stay based on employment.

2. You should not have a valid visa at this point in time.

3. On your last day of work, if that is the case, you should report to immigration and they will cancel your extension of stay based on employment. Bring a letter from former employer stating last day worked.

4. You can then immediately apply for a 1 year extension of stay based on marriage, if you can qualify financially, without leaving the country.

5. As said, you could also apply for 60 day extension to visit your Thai wife.

does this also work for multiple non im-B?, yes i still have to leave the country every 90days, to re-activate the visa. if this work for mult non B, i would like to ask a few question

once my mult non B visa is expire and my last 90days is up, can i also apply for another 90 days extend my stay base on seeing my wife at the bangkok immigration office.

if if i was allow to get the 90days extend, and get all my marriage paper work together can i then apply for 1 year stay base on marriage in bangkok without leaving the country.

The extension based on rule 2.24 is 60 days.

Yes you can sort out your papers and apply for 1 year extension based on marriage.

Police order 777/2551. You can Google or get from pinned useful information at top of page. This is the paper for all extensions of stay and 2.24 is specific to the 60 day extension to visit spouse or child.

thank you for the reply above, what kind of form do i have to fill out, is there an example of the form or a PDF file of the form, or i must get the form at the immigration.

You can apply for the 1 year extension direct, without first getting a 60 day extension. You can apply during the last 30 days of any permission to stay. You don't have to wait till the last extension of stay runs out.

The form can be found at the immigration webiste: http://www.immigration.go.th/nov2004/download/tm7.doc

You will have to print it double sided. They won't accept it on 2 seperate pieces of paper.

i see, you mean i can just apply for the 1year marriage extension, 30day before my mult non b expire, there is no need for the 60day extension, in that case i have to get all my document and paper work ready for the 1 year marriage extension. so basically i can covert from multiple B to 1year stay base on marriage without leaving the country.

can i extend year after year base on this marriage extension, or its only work for 1year only?

i understand that the Bangkok immigration office have move to another location, would one know which room i need to go to to do this transaction?

Yes any extension of stay can be extended yearly if you meet the conditions. Immigration is at the end of Soi 7, Chiang Watanna Road (soi next to CAT Hqs) and is at the entry level south-east corner. Best entry is using the South entrance (turn right at end of Soi 7) and have taxi take to the entry half way to end of south side. If you use main entry turn left when in huge plaza area and walk until you see the immigration signs.

is this the main hall where everybody go to get their 14day/30days extension etc.., same counter?

aren't there a different room where you must go to do these transaction,

i'm sorry i haven't been to this new location yet just want to know exactly what im doing and know where im going, sometime its hard to ask for help from the officer there, they might end up send you to place that you're not suppose to be in, imagine standing in line for a few hour when your turn they said sorry wrong place....

Immigration staff will let you know where to go on arrival; they are helpful. Remember also that if you plan to travel abroad during the period of the new extension you will need to obtain a re-entry permit from immigration to keep your permission to stay alive. Fee 1000 baht single entry; 3800 baht multi entry.
