Thai Tourist Visa For German Currently Visiting The Usa

Hello, I am German, 35 years-old, currently touring the USA on a visa-waiver (no need for visa for vacation for up to 3 months).

From the USA I would like to go and visit Thailand for a few weeks, but I heard that Thai consulates in the USA would require me to be a US citizen or provide a green-card or working visa...

I do NOT want to go to Germany just to get the Thai visa, I would like to get the Thai visa in the USA (or in Asia such as HK?) so I can go directly to Thailand.

How to do this?

The first question is, how long you want to stay. As a German, you don't need a visa if you stay not longer than 30 days. (But you must have a ticket out of Thailand within those 30 days).

If you want to go longer or don't have a ticket out of the country you can get a tourist visa. There is no rule that you have to be an American or hold a GC to be able to get a tourist visa in the US.

Thank you. I would like to stay 2 or 3 months... Can I go to Hong Kong or another Asian country and get a Thai tourist visa there? In the USA, the consulates seem specific of the fact I would need to be a US resident:

REQUIREMENTS FOR NON-U.S. CITIZENS APPLYING IN USA

Tourist Visa

- Passport, must have at least six months remaining validity and at least one blank visa page

- ...

- Employment verification or a guarantor's letter from a U.S. resident

- copy of confirmed round-trip ticket

I don't know how up to date this listing of Thai consulates is, especially the honorary ones, but might be worth a phone call to one that you're semi close to. The honorary consulates can often issue Thai tourist visas. I used to use the one in Portland Oregon, no problem.

Those requirements are options. If you have tickets the other factors would not be required. It is just to prove you have the means to return/leave at the end of your stay.
