I have been living in Thailand for 6 years and started off with a non imm B for a few years while I worked but went over to a tourist visa the last 4 years whilst business was a bit tough here.

I am now looking to start up my business again and need to get appropriate visa but my status is now different, I now have a Thai wife and a daughter with her.

Is the non imm B still the appropriate visa or should I consider the non imm O visa? Is it easy to obtain work permits this way?

Are there any other alternatives for this situation?

Thanks in advance

if you are married to a thai you can get marriage visa but you need to prove you have 400,000 in bank at anytime they ask you to show, dont know a lot about it but maybe the experts on here can give you more clear advice, good luck

You can apply for extension of stay based on marriage to Thai if you meet the requirements, financial requirements being 400k in Thai bank account in your name for two months prior to application (2/3 months for renewals, depends on immigration office) OR 40k/month income (your income).

You can go through conversion process from tourist visa to Non-O visa to extension of stay based on marriage at Thai immigration as long as you have at least 21 days remaining on your permission to stay. Note that most immigration offices cannot handle the conversion process and will direct you to Bangkok. The fee for conversion is 2,000 baht. Often it is easier to obtain single entry Non-O visa from consulate abroad (same fee) - you will get 90 day permission to stay on entry - and then to move directly to extension of stay during the last 30 days of permission to stay.

If using the bank balance option you will need a letter from bank confirming the account balance and copies of bank book. If using income option you will need to obtain an income letter from your embassy if income is from overseas. Or tax receipts if income is from within Thailand. The fee for extension is 1,900 baht.

No need to do border runs every 90 days, but instead will need to report your address to immigration every 90 days. For most offices 90 day reporting can be done by post. You can obtain work permit using either Non-O or Non-B visa, or extension of stay based on marriage.
