Miss Canada crowned 'Miss Universe 2005'

BANGKOK: -- The Miss Universe 2005 contest, hosted by the Thai kingdom, came to an end this morning, with Miss Canada, Natalie Glebov, 23, crowned the prestigious title.

The first to fourth runners-up go to Miss Puerto Rico, Cynthia Olavaria, 23; Miss Dominican Republic, Renata Sone, 22; Miss Mexico, Laura Elizondo, 21; and Miss Venezuela, Monica Spear, 20, respectively.

The final rounds of the three-week competition to search for the 'most beautiful woman on earth' for the year 2005 began with the introduction of all the 81 contestants from around the world, including Miss Chananporn Rosjan of Thailand, on the backdrops of major tourist attractions in the kingdom.

The top 15 finalists were then announced. They included Miss Canada, Miss Dominican Republic, Miss Greece, Miss Indonesia, Miss Israel, Miss Latvia, Miss Mexico, Miss Norway--a Norwegian-Thai half-breed, Miss Peru, Miss Puerto Rico, Miss South Africa, Miss Switzerland, Miss Trinidad and Tobago, Miss USA and Miss Venezuela.

Ten of them later became the top 10 finalists, including Miss Puerto Rico, Miss Canada, Miss Switzerland, MIss Latvia, Miss Dominican Republic, Miss USA, Miss Mexico, MIss Venezuela and Miss Israel.

The final round, with the top five finalists, was announced after a show in their swimming wears

Born in Russia in a small coastal town and moved to Toronto, Canada, with her parents since she was 12 with the Canadian citizenship. Natalie Glebov, the Miss Universe 2005, is now working as a model and studies Information Technology Management and Marketing at Ryerson University.

She is also a modern gymnastics player, a classical pianist and a composer, who dreams to have a small business of her own one day.

Two more prestigious titles were also announced at the final rounds, broadcast live around the world.

They included Miss Photogenic and Miss Friendship Titles, which went to Miss Philippines, Gionna Cabrera, 22, and Miss US Virgin Island, Tricia Homer, 23, respectively.

Miss Chananporn Rosjan, 22, of Thailand was also presented the 'Best National Costume Award' she won on 25 May.

Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra hailed the success of the Thai kingdom's host of the Miss Universe 2005 pageant, with the country's good image and reputation as 'the happiness on earth' publicized internationally.

He said that the Miss Universe 2005 would also become a goodwill ambassador for the kingdom given her delicate 'wai', a polite greeting in the Thai style, and her sweet word, 'Khob Khun ka' or 'Thank You', which has impressed people globally.

The government will organize an official event in honour of all the Miss Universe 2005 contestants in Bangkok Wednesday evening before they leave the kingdom the day after.

The kingdom hosted the Miss Universe 2005 pageant between 13-31 May, with major competitions held at the Impact Arena in Muang Thong Thani on the outskirts of Bangkok.

hmm, all from the Americas.... I smell a conspiracy  :o

It is always rigged. At least it wasn't another Indian winner, this year's pedigree wasn't their best.

All spanish too..... except Miss Canada.

As a Canadian- I gotta be proud but in all truth I thought Miss Puerto Rico (#2) was hotter!

Interesting to note that Miss Canada is (was) Russian, and moved to Canada when she was 12.

I was rather surprised to see all the runners up coming from the Central/South American region, and no asians picked (except for the "Best National Costume" award for Miss Thailand).

There is probably ALOT of behind-the-scenes wheeling and dealing for votes, though I don't know what the Central/South American countries could bring to the table (in asia) that would buy them any favours (maybe they'll gaurantee to buy tons of Thai chicken in the future ?).

well, I mean, latin women do have a certain global appeal.

More body than TG, or asian girls. Not necessarily fat <deleted> (like the U.S. candidate.

Ahh, that latin soul.

Of course being in central america, I see nothing wrong with that.

Interesting indeed to note that all the finalists were american/american puppet states, but that the winner is of Russian descent.

Could the cold war truly be over?

Did I miss any news in the last fifteen years?

I think she won not because of geo-politics, but because she had luscious gozabas and a fantastic body.

Probably about 3% body fat.

Venezuela got third place not as a vote of confidence in their maverick President but because she had a gurt big pair of cans.

Aren't Beauty Contests great ! Hurray for political incorrectness.

All fixed and only to be taken as a bit of fun. :o

Politically uncorrect and a chance for a bit of early morning soft porn.

Sure, Miss Canada has great assets but I wouldn't consider her to be that pretty. Some real babes were completely byepassed e.g. Slovenia, Lebanon. As for USA, fat ass, plastic looks, wouldn't even give her a second glance in the street.

Good luck to Miss Thailand as she did her best, though she wouldn't have represented Thailand without daddies connections....

Think they should revise the contest next year into different categories:

Best Body

Most Beautiful Face

Stylish/Classiest Woman

and select a winner for the overall title for the girl that scores the highest aggregate score in all categories combined.

All judges scoring should be on view so anything 'dodgy' can be highlighted.

Just my 69 satang...

And where, pray tell, are you going to find a girl in the U.S. without a fat arse?

Slight qualification - "over 18 years old".

How about the filthiest looking that you would most like to play nudie-prod sports with? :o

Not in Wal Mart, that's for sure! :o

In my opinion, this type of contests are a waste of time and money. So is, for instance, that silly Eurovision Song Contest.

It's a fix. This is Miss Universe right? Every contest has been won by a human being from earth. A balance needs to be struck.

How about that alien currently on trial in the US, the bleached figure with the artificial nose? She could have won it, after all she did do a moondance in more ways than one, a few years ago.

About Miss Universe contest- it isn't a contest or sport, it is a business intended to make money. Donald Trump is executive producer.... so he probably decides.

The only non-Latina contestant in the finals, the brown-haired, blue-eyed Canadian beauty queen won a big round of applause when she answered the question, “What’s your biggest challenge in life?” from fellow contestant Miss Dominican Republic. Glebova was the only contestant to finish her answer before the bell rang. :D

“The biggest challenge in my life is always trying to think positive. I consider myself the kind of person who sees the world as a glass half-full, instead of half-empty. And even though sometimes it’s hard to look at life this way, I always try to maintain the positive side in life,” said Glebova, who is a motivational speaker and a model, before winning over spectators with a simple “kop khun kha” (thank you) and a wai. :D

Kan Win :D :-

These beauties are Ambassadors to the World and by winning they/she has to perform for 1 year going around the World promoting Peace and Love :D etc…

Me, I am over the Moon with Miss Universe :o so to speak……(and yes, pun intended BTW) :D

who sees the world as a glass half-full, instead of half-empty.
I have the same problem only with my Beer. Cheers :D Edited by Kan Win

Agreed... Very big problem for me also...

By the way... As I`m sure most of us know, most stunningly attractive girls are actually quite khrap in bed... I wonder if they have any sort of rating on bedsport qualifications on these poo-ying... If so, perhaps I would actually envy Donald Trumpet.

:D:D

Ohh, isn`t the world a dandy ol` place...

(just trying to keep a half full attitude) :D

Forgot to mention, glad that Miss Singapore won something, even though she is a little bit on the skinny side, very pretty.

And sure, apart from fun, the show is BIG business.

Only a year to go until the next one.....

I think Donald is suffering from Hugh Hefner envy. Looking at the female contestants on his crap reality show "The Apprentice", the Miss America contestant would fit right in, (and a few of them did get in to Playboy magazine, The Girls of The Apprentice" edition).

Then there were the Miss America TV advertisements, where Donald tells the previous year's Miss America that he was happy with her performance, "But the rules are the rules. You're Fired !"

Must be nice to be rich. Then you can treat other people like Sh*t and they will still respect and admire you.

What's all the fuss about? The one in the centre is definitely a cock in a frock and the rest are probably all frigid anyway :D Saying that, I thought France and Namibia were the best looking, although I was a bit tanked up at the time and didn't have my glasses on. :D

Exactly - none of these Miss Universe scrubbers would know how to satisfy us real men.

...Burp...

Doh.

I'd certainly allow all of them to try to satisfy me though, except Miss USA and Miss Possible KT!
