Electronics Repair Shops

Featured Replies

I have some 110v devices I want changed over to 220v for use locally. In one case it's an amplified computer speaker set.

Can anyone recommend a good electronics repair shop for something like this? Amorn Electronics at Fortune Town declined. Other have recommending going to the market at Yaowarat.

My preference is a place accessible to BTS or MRT-- or at least within the core of Bangkok. (I'm near Thong Lor BTS.)

Advise that you get a simple transformer that will cost you about 200 baht that will convert 220 to 110 volts. You can pick it up at Panthip on the first floor in one of several shops found close to the back of the building. Fortune probably has the same stuff as well.

Agree on the transformer advice.

You may be able to find a reputable shop, such as at Fortune Town on Rachadapisek, but the cost may well be more than the value of the equipment and there will be no guarantee. I would err on the safe side and get the transformers.

Cheers

Go back to Amorn and look for a 220V to 110V transformer. They had several models (a 500W size should be ok for computer speakers) at the Amorn shop near where I live in the Tesco/Lotus outlet on Rama IV.

Note that this will change the voltage, but the frequency will be 50Hz instead of 60Hz as it is in the US. You might check your speaker amp to see if 50Hz is ok.
