Helping children

By The Nation on Sunday

BANGKOK: -- Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) will organise "parental classroom" workshops on May 8-9 for com-munities in Min Buri, Sai Mai, Din Daeng, Bangkok Noi, Yannawa, and Phasi Charoen districts.

A first round of this scheme - aimed at helping parents raise children in a society after they have seen violent clashes on tel-evision - was held this weekend.

Dr Suriyadeo Tripathi, direc-tor of Mahidol University's National Institute for Child and Family Development, yesterday urged parents to control emo-tions and not to fight in front of children. They could used it as a chance to discuss how images of conflict affect them and what could be a good solution to resolve such disputes. Parents could help kids understand that situations of conflict occur in real life and what can be done to solve them, he said.
