Any suggestions on where I might find a selection of original, modern Thai art for sale in Bangkok? Am looking for paintings, prints, in the Baht 2,000 to 5,000 range. Thanks

There is a pretty well known shop on Sukhumvit Soi 1. Right hand side going to Bumrungrad, and there is a parking. Forgot the name.... but I remember it was quite expensive! At any rate, it is (was) worth a visit.

You can easily find some original, modern thai paintings in BKK but not with this kind of price.

The art that can be found in the galleries from 30k to 500k bahts, and much more.

Have a look on www.rama9art.org. You can see there the galleries, some artists, the events...

For your range of price, you should go to the art week-end market at the National Gallery,

maybe you can find something that you like.

Get yourself over to Chatuchak weekend market, a whole section their devoted to what you are looking for, dont know about the prices.

Take the skytrain to Mor Chit station and its a 5 minute walk, just follow the crowds.

You won't find anything in the OP's price range here, but for art lovers out there this link may be worth a browse.

I think a price range from 30,000 bt up to 400,000 bt is more likely here.

Nab Sotthibandhu is one of Thailand's older, more established artists (has sold paintings to the Royalty).

In the 2k to 5k price range, you can try Ming Gallery in Soi Wattana Wong near the Bangkok Palace, Eastin, Ramada hotels in Pratunam. They have quite a large selection and will paint to your specifications if you want something of your own design. You can check out their website before visiting. There's also a place on Silom called Samui Art that's cheap too. Sombat Gallery in Soi 1 Sukhumvit is expensive and you won't find much for 5k.

Thanks for the replies. Presume the week-end market at the Nat Gallery is open both Sat/Sun. Any idea of the times?

Let me know if it's still open as I thought it had closed a while ago.

Thanks to all for the ideas. Tried most already. The art market at the National Gallery is virtualy non-existent - just a very few rather poor offerings on display there today. Chatachuk was worthwhile with some quite good selections at interesting prices. Have yet to try the Ming Gallery, though the on-line cataologue seems promising. RS
