I think I have the right forum here. Feel free to point me in the right direction if I am wrong.

My wife and I are considering a holiday in Thailand. The thing is, we are not beach and nightclub people. One of our hobbies is Gemology, and I was wondering about the chances of doing some prospecting. The tourist site has nothing on the subject. so I wondered if anyone on the forum could help me. :o

Might i suggest kanchanaburi as a destination. It is well known for its nearby saphire mines and all the local cutters and polishers are more than happy to let you walk around there shops and factories. Can't promise if you can get any prospecting going, but with all the mines out at bugger can't remember tha name of the place, something like bang ploy, bo ploy. Anyway a few km away from kanch. The city of kan is a good place to visit as the surrounding area has a lot to offer you when you dont have your nose to the ground looking at shiny rocks. Just an idea, if you need any recomendations on places to stay pm me and i will give you some nice places withing your budget ok. Hmm i do know an ex army general who has a mine too, haven't sen him in a while though. If interested drop me a line or good luck with any other advice.
