Advice Please: WP/ 1yr visa

Recommended Posts

Hello all!

I recently renewed my 1yr visa and wp, however due to circumstances beyond my control I missed the deadline for the last extension of my wp. The visa is already stamped in my passport, but the min. of labor says I have to file for a new wp. My question is this: If I only intend to stay in LOS for another month, is it really neccesary to go through all of the trouble getting a new wp? Will there be a hassel at the airport when going through immigration? I suppose technically the work permit is already expired.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

If I had the spare time I would renew it, which would cost 800 baht. Why don't you file for a new wp, but then don't bother to pick it up. By that time you will be leaving the country.

Just because your wp is finished, doesn't mean that your visa will be stopped.

Thanks for info

Problem is if I renew my wp and dont cancel it before I leave; if I ever decide to get another wp I will be required to show tax receipts for the validity of new wp. What are the chances of the min. of labor communicating with immigration of wp expiration?

Good question. I don't know the answer. 3 years ago my wp finished and my visa lasted for 11 months. I heard lots of stories about how the Labour Dept was linked to the Immigration. I think that they are totally separate and don't communicate. I know some who have had similar experiences more recently.

I have not heard of anyone having a problem with their visas being stopped, but there may be. Maybe others could share their experiences.

If I were you, I would take the chance. If you got stopped on the street and got your visa checked, I think you would be alright.

It should be noted that it is stated quite clearly at Immigration, that if there is

any change in employment or ending of employment for which the visa was issued

in conjunction with,(WP) then you have to report to immigration within 7 days.

Not to do so is taking a big risk if you are caught.

If no further employment is available then your visa is invalidated and you will

have to leave within.... so many days.

If you have new work, providing you have the right form(M 10) from the Labor office

and present it to Immigration within 7 days, along with all your paper work from

yourself and the future employer, you will get an extension of stay.

Only if something is wrong with a document, then they' re likely to stamp

'must leave within 10 days'. Get back there with everything in order, then you

will get the 'extension' one again.

Your original post is 5 days old. It means if you will apply for a new WP now, it will be for only 25 days. Does it worth it? So just wait to get more replies here... and gradually the days will pass.. and more replies will tell you not to bother about it coz its only 24 days... 20 days.. 14 days... 1 week.

Then if you get caught you can always say you waited for advice on ThaiVisa. :o

Sorry for the stupid post, that's what happens when instead of going home after 10 hours of work you log into the forum... :D
