cooked Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 Buy a lemon from Tesco, plant the seeds, splice the seedling onto suitable rootstock. Really... That easy ? Will it bear fruit in a few years ? Waste of time if you don't know what you are grafting. Maybe the mother fruit was a hybrid, meaning that your seedling won't have the properties of the mother plant.
jonnyscot Posted December 1, 2012 Posted December 1, 2012 Just bought my first lemon tree today, there's a big Agri type farm fair at Kasetsart University in Nakhon Pathom province which started from today until the 10th december,,noticed one of the stalls selling a few of them, we bought a 2 year old plant, hopefully we can keep healthy and produce some lemons,, Jonny Sent from my iPhone using ThaiVisa app
TommoPhysicist Posted December 1, 2012 Posted December 1, 2012 Don't you need two trees to pollinate each other? Just a thought. Had a look, most citrus trees are self-pollinating.
krisb Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 Any of you willing to send me some seedlings? My mouth waters to think of the beautiful lemons fresh off the tree in southern California Buy a nice imported lemon from the grocery store, grow the seeds to seedlings, and set them out. The beauty of lemons is that they bear at all stages of growth, until the growth capacity of tree is filled, when it will stop flowering and setting fruit. All young lemons on the tree will then steadily ripen. while the mature fruit will hold on the tree without spoiling until you pick it. If you pick fruit, the flowering will start again. Lemon is one of the smartest plants out there, it knows how to maximize its potential for usefulness. They way you have written I read it like a poem. 1

David48 Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 Buy a lemon from Tesco, plant the seeds, splice the seedling onto suitable rootstock. Almost all citrus trees in Australia which produce quality fruit have used a root stock. Learn a little about root stocks here and here. .
Sumarianson Posted March 28, 2019 Posted March 28, 2019 Lemons in Thailand are a ridiculous price, I paid 180 Baht for 4 at Home Fresh Mart. I wish I had land to grow them! Those of you who have access to the land and grow stuff are really lucky. I used to have a wonderful garden in the UK but sadly no more!

They grow well in tubs and large planters...........give it a go. And an old Kiwi remedy was to have a pee on the soil around the plant (often)........as Bert Munro told his young neighbour before he headed off to Bonneville Flats!!
