the chinese student who stood in front of the tank effectively blocking the column of tanks from advancing, was at that time considered by everyone from every nation, except chinese govt, as a 'hero'.... not a daft....

Back on topic, the OP has a good point. The government is turning this into a PR disaster. it also seems to me that the majority of the media are all too happy to see the red shirt view anyway.
