I asked around on Thanon Wualai (Saturday walking street) about the price for silver. In shops and to the sellers on the Walking street.

For 1 gram at least 35 baht...

I was shocked...

It was for the most simple designs, not even for Hill Tribe (at least 98% silver) pieces.

About a year ago I bought silver in BKK

Simple designs Sterling silver- around 20 baht (wholesale 18 baht)

For Hill Tribe and other- around 22-24 baht per gram (wholesale around 20)

How come the prices are almost doubled here?

You'd think Hill Tribe Silver comes from this area, so it would be cheaper, but no...

Has the silverprice simply increased this much?

Or is there less competition among seller?

Today's political situation?

Or...?

Because I was really surprised when I did my round 6 weeks ago.

Ah...that explains...

I just emailed a seller in BKK for the today's prices.

I checked the prices a year ago: Karen Silver was 19 baht per gram in May 2009. 18 baht for 1 kg or more.

Let's see how much it is now.
