hi, At home in the UK i do volunteering and charity work for mencap. Do they have similar charities in Surin? ( not necessarily mental health )

how can i ffind out about charity work in surin?

also i read somewhere oin the TV forums, cant remember where, that if you do volunteering in thailand for say, a minimum of 6 hours a week, the charity can do the paperwork for your visa ( i will still need to do a visa run of course ). Anyone heard anything about this?

I would also investigate the subject of possibly needing a work permit??

I have helped out many times in weekend 'Engrish Camps" and everything is so, so low key here in Surin, I feel

confident your help would be most gratefully recieved with little fuss.

In saying that, I am a great believer in having all things covered here, especially when one doesn't know the 'people to know'

Cheers Dave. Yes I also thought about volunteering as an ''English Teacher'', just for a few hours a week. I hear Surin is quite full of Western teachers. I am in no way qualified as a teacher, but can at least speak the lingo :). Maybe if I ask around the schools, I could do some volunteering, if in return they can provide me with a work visa. It will at least give me something to do in Surin, which I am looking for.

edited for grammatical errors lol

I am no teacher either (Bank Mgr, then Gas Engineer) and thats why I helped with English camps because they were weekend 'educational fun and games' for the kids, as opposed to regimental 'Rote' learning. It would all be 'under the table' work and they would, therefor NOT help with a visa or WP. Its a great way to meet people too!

When you get here, pop into Starbeam and Mike will hook you up with a few farang teachers who might be able to help you.
