Paul Gray, bass player for Slipknot, found dead

Washington: -- Paul Gray, the bass guitarist for the Grammy award-winning heavy-metal band Slipknot, was found dead in at a hotel in Des Moines, Iowa Monday, according to a brief statement from his record label. Gray was 38.

According to the De Moines Register, police found no evidence of foul play at the hotel where Gray was found and where he had apparently been staying for several days. Toxicology tests were to be done on Tuesday.

Gray co-founded the band in 1995 and it rose to fame in 1999 with its album Slipknot, followed by Iowa in 2002 and The Subliminal Verses in 2005.

Famed for its heavy metal sound that was often matched with raucous vocals, the band was also well known for wearing grotesque masks on stage and engaging in provocative behaviour like urinating and vomiting on its audience.

Slipknot also won a 2006 Grammy for best metal performance and is considere done of the most successful bands in the US. Its 2008 album All Hope is Gone topped the metal charts that year, and the band ranked 18th on Billboard's list of top grossing concert bands in 2009.

While no cause of death has yet been ascertained, there is widespread speculation that it was caused by a drug overdose. Gray was arrested on drug charges in 2003 after crashing his Porsche into another car in Des Moines while in possession of marijuana, cocaine and drug paraphernalia.

I am sure there is a message in this for everyone. :)

As Neil Young immortalized a generation before in 1979

"Rock-n-Roll Will Never Die"

Rock and Roll is here to stay

It's better to burn out

Than to fade away
