Hi mate,

I know Shennanigans has it on. I am planning on going to the Jomtien one. Good food and plenty of televisions.

Lets hope the Germans play a fairer game than the Italians did in the semi final in the last world cup. We was robbed mate.

Go the Socceroos!

Sorry mate, just realised you are in Phuket. Prob a bit far to come and watch the game. Good luck finding it in Phuket, and I hope the good people on this forum suggest a top place to watch the game.

That's great news Old Croc,

Gerd if you're up Nai Yang way I'll buy you a beer if you're wearing green & gold & shouting "C'mon the Aussies"... :)

Watched the Champions league final at the New James Cafe in Phuket Town, Phoon Phon Road Soi 7. Big beer garden with 2 large screens. Audience mainly Thai, attentive service, drinks prices very fair, good location, but food not recommended...

World Cup-

the only time Americans actually get interested in soccer. I'm looking forward to seeing the U.S. team take down King George's mob.

If in Kata OP, I'm sure Dukes Sports bar will have it.

The rest of the world should be quaking in their boots, the Aussies have just won - the race to be the first team in South Africa! :)

Socceroos coach Pim Verbeek targeted an opening victory over the might of Germany after touching down in South Africa for the 2010 World Cup.

The Australian squad was the first of 31 overseas teams to arrive ahead of the tournament, making them the objects of plenty of attention a fortnight out from the opening ceremony.

There was a widespread mood of "good luck, you're going to need it" about the Socceroos' Australian farewell, but Verbeek was firm in stressing his desire for nothing less than an opening win against the Germans.

"The most important thing for Australia is to win our first match," Verbeek said.

"We have given ourselves plenty of time to prepare and acclimatise to the local conditions.

"I know it is not going to be easy as we have a tough group with some quality teams.

"My players will have to get used to the altitude and the few warm-up matches will help us a lot in achieving this.

"When playing in the World Cup you have to prepare yourself and make sure the team is in good condition."

Hallo Gerd,

I think you have to specify what you mean by your request to watch that match.

The first 2010 World Cup match will kick off on Friday, June 11 at 9pm local time, when hosts South Africa face Mexico.

Kick-off times will range from 6:30pm to 1:30am local time, meaning bars will need to stay open until around 3:30am to show the later matches.

The tournament will be broadcast on True Visions and Thai TV channels 3, 7, 9 and 11.

Those seeking English-language coverage of the matches on local cable might be disappointed, as customer service representatives at two local cable TV providers said they would only be carrying Thai-language feeds from free-to-air channels.

This means you can watch the match in Thai language nearly everywhere. But if you want to have English commentary you will have to look out for this special package that TRUE/UBC offers for HD TV.

My recommendation would be the Australian Sports Bar in Soi Bangla.

Thanks LB,

I was talking about the Aussie vs German game.

I have the same idea about the Ausie Bar in Bangla a good choice for that game.

Yes, the obvious venue, although there may be some German bars in Soi Crocodile that will televise it ...

Hallo,

I think the problem is whether you want to have English commentary. That was also the basic for my answer to Gerd. I am sure many bars will show the game at the local news channels (in Thai language), but which bar invests in this HD format that TRUE/UBC offers and that guarantees you English commentary. There are some conditions implemented (subscription for 6 months etc.) which makes it quite expensive for just the one month soccer world cup.

And as far as I guessed that was the gist of the question from Gerd.

Usually the Pizza 2000 in Chalong shows football matches: German Bundesliga and Champions League Games of the German teames via shared TV or Thai TV.

Pretty sure they are going to show the games of the German national side there as well.

Chalong Circle, road to the pier on your left hand side after the Anchor Inn restaurant and Sea Bees diving.

That was round of 16, not semis. Australia never went that far in World Cup.....

Anyway, remember that game clearly, Aussies were threated harsh by ref, Italians used all dirty tricks to win by narrowest of margins - from penalty spot kick that never existed at first place.

Not to knock any Italians on the board here, but your footy team is loaded with floppers and flappers.

Wasn't it that team that Zindane did his "headbutt heard around the world"?

Oz v Germany will go past 2am. I know the Aussie Bar can open past 2am for the World Cup, but, does anyone know if they will be able to sell alcohol for the scond half of the match which, I believe, goes on past 2am?

Yeah, right - that'll happen.

Anyway, I didn't think socialist progressives believed in the idea of winners and losers. :)

(It's also pretty much the only time I get fired up by football).

It was definitely a penalty - it's not the Italians fault Aussies don't understand the rules of the game. Neil missed the ball and took the man - 100% penalty. A soft penalty it may have been, but it was a penalty none the less. Poor little australia thought they were going to win the world cup! Bless...

Thanks mate. It was worse than I thought, I had tipped 3-0. :D

The socceroos haven't advanced since 2006, just gotten older and slower. This will probably mean the end of the aussie bid for the 2022 Cup.

:)

I tipped Germany to win 2-0, but that was disgraceful.

I think 4-0 is flattering for the Aussie. Germany could have scored a couple more.

Australia is just not in the same league when it comes to World cup soccer.

A draw would have been an amazing achievement, but i guess you must have hope before every game.

Though i have to say the Germans looks sharp and very clinical in all aspects.

Will be hard to beat.

Agree, good performance by the Germans (that Oezil is a real gem) but Australia looked completely out of depth - old and slow. Along with Greece the weakest team performance so far.

Ditto, the soccoroos were outclassed, outplayed and outdated. I hope they can salvage some pride.
