I'm an American on holiday in Berlin, Germany. I went to the Royal Thai Embassy Berlin to obtain a 60 day tourist visa (as I will be staying in the Kingdom of Thailand for more then the 30 days they give me at the airport and I don't want to do the visa run thing), and I was told by the embassy in Berlin that they only issue tourist visa to German citizen/residence and that I would have to get my visa from my home country. The guy I was talking to then went on to tell me this was a new rule. Can anyone tell me if this is a new thai rule or did I get someone on a bad day? Also dose anyone know if this is the case at the Royal Thai Embassy Kuala Lumpur? KL is my next stop before Thailand.

That is not a rule, but in general Embassies tend to be more difficult that consulates and honorary cnsulates are the most friendly. You could try it at a Thai consulate, call hem and see if you can do it by mail.

If you go to Kl it will be no problem, although you apply on day 1 and pick-up the visa on the next work day.

I called the consulate in Frankfurt, and Hamburg and was told the same thing.. But thanks for the info about KL.
