I have a AIS 3G USB dongle that is out of GPRS/EDGE airtime. The last time I topped it up, I took the SIM card out of the modem, put it in a regular cellphone and added money using the scratch cards. Then I had to call AIS customer service to get this credit moved to the EDGE/GPRS account. Then I put the SIM back in the modem which is all very arcane and time consuming.

I notice on the connection program that when you click the "1-2-call Check Balance" button, there's a window for a 'input recharge code' to be entered. Is this where the scratch card numbers should be entered? If so, does this top up the EDGE/GPRS account or do I still need to call them to do the swap.

Thanks for the help here.

While I cant answer that question directly.. Another way is..

If you have net banking, you can top up your cellphone that way, I just whack a few 100 or a 1000 onto my and the missus phones when I log in every few weeks to save all that messing with cards. If you get the SIM into a phone one time, find its tel number via caller ID, then just net bank credit to it, even set it up as a standing order to do it monthly so it becomes totally effort free.

Yes, I have used Bangkok Bank ATM's to top up the VOICE services on phones but doubt if it has a way of making credits specifically to the data services on the SIM. Looking at the account using the AIS dialup interface, it shows the scratch card credits I added yesterday but the GPRS/EDGE balance is still 0 baht.

My apologies.. I thought credit was credit..

I have never topped up anything special, and my data credit is just taken from my (voice ??) top up credit.

Yes indeed, once you set up the amount you require each month via the call center, it will automatically top-up the data bit from what's available on the account by the selected amount on the same date each month. I was out of the country when the last 'top-up' fell due and there wasn't enough dosh in the 'bucket'. Should be sorted now. Cheers!

Yes credit is credit. They take the credit for your data plan from your overall balance. If you know the number of your SIM card, your best bet is topping up via your online Thai Bank or via Paypal / Google Checkout on ThaiPrePaidCard.com. That way you don't need to remove your sim from your modem. Make sure your balance is high enough each month, or your data package will be canceled.
