The visa will start from the day that The embassy stamps in in your passport, so be prepared to leave shortly after that.

The visa will start from the day it is granted. If it is a single entry visa, you will have 3 months in which you have to enter Thailand. If you arrive later, your visa will be expired and you can no longer enter Thailand on it. Once you are in Thailand, the expiry date of the visa doesn't matter anymore.

If it is a multiple entry visa, it will be valid for 1 year from date of issue, and each time you enter Thailand during that year you will be granted to stay 90 days, after which you have to leave the country and can return the same day for another 90 days (if your visa is still valid).

There are 2 different dates involved with visa's.

One is the "use before" date of the actual visa. This depends on the type of visa, usually 3 months for a single entry visa, 6 months for a double entry visa and 1 year for the multiple entry non immigrant visa, counting from the day the visa is issued.

This date is exactly what is says, you have to use the visa before expiry, i.e. enter Thailand while it is still valid.

The second important date is how long you will be allowed to stay in Thailand after entering. This is solely based on what type of visa you hold (along with your nationality), for most nationalities it's 60 days for a tourist visa, and 90 days for a non immigrant visa.

This is entirely separate from the visa expiry date! Example: if you arrive 1 day before your non immigrant visa expires, you will still receive the full 90 days you are entitled to!
