Hi.

Me and 3 mates are staying at KSR next week for the start of our first trip to thailand.

we booked online in a cheap hotel/hostel, looked alright and reviews were alright too so got involved very cheaply.

I know there has been the trouble recently and is this sitll having any affects on the area?

Also we are there 3/4 nights, what will the nightlife be like around KSR, and as it is my birthday on the Thursday what is one of the best places to go out (we are three 20 year olds)

any help appreciated! harry

also around khao san road bars etc i know this may sound stupid but obviously i dont know as iv never been but does anywhere have a dress code?

Plenty of bars down the Khao San Rd itself, all on your doorstep if you're staying there....the whole street is bars, shops and restaurants with the odd club mixed in. Its all very relaxed, I wouldn't worry about dress code - personally I make a slight effort, clean and presentable, but as you'll see there are all types, bearing in mind its back-packer country. If you're there 3/4 nights you might want to spread out a bit past Khao San but you'll soon find out what's about...

There's none of the recent trouble now though you should apply common sense as you would anywhere; listen and learn, show respect to people jap.gif, smile a lot and be friendly. Never get involved in an argument, especially if drunk, and enjoy your birthday!

bkkjames official guide to acceptable

Dress Code - Mannerisms on / around KSR

No golf shirts, proper pants, trainers. Flip flops, t-shirts (preferably with some asian motif) and surfing shorts only!

Additional things to keep in mind in order to fit-in.

1. Dreads : if you ain't got them, get them

2. Tattoos: the more the merrier - regardless of how bad they look

3. Slang: rehearse your best lines in advance

4. Mobile Devices: leave your smart phone at home - blackberry messenger spoils the look
