A tourist visa allows up to 90 day stay - you just have to extend your stay for 30 days before the initial period of 60 days is up. You do that at any immigration office with payment of 1,900 baht/photo and fill out TM.7 form.

He did not indicate that he would meet requirements for a non immigrant O visa in his post.

I see that they have slightly altered the requirements for an o visa now.

Nowadays you have to supply an additional letter when applying on the basis of visiting friends or family. You need to stste that you will be visiting someone and their address. The visa applicant writes this letter, not the person who he is visiting.

If he is a pensioner, he can apply for an O visa, but needs to include proof of receiving a pension.

So I fill out this and just hand it in? http://www.thaiembas...sa_standard.pdf and then after 60 days visit the immigration office in thailand?

Although it says -

According to the type and category of Visa in possession, Tourist Visa not exceeding 60 Days per entry for

Nationals from 38 designated countries and passport holders from Hong Kong and Macau and, Tourist Visa not

exceeding 30 days per entry for Nationals from other countries, Transit Visa not exceeding 3 Days per entry and

Non-Immigrant Visa not exceeding 90 Days per entry. Certain Nations in the Middle East, South Asia

and East Asia Passport Holders, please check basic documents required from our website.

And i'm going next Fri so I'd rather get this sorted in person.

Your tourist visa is 60 days and can be extended for another 30 days.

You don't have to wait till the last day, you can do it 1 or 2 weeks in advance. The extension will start anyway from the end of your 60 days, so you don't lose any days by extending early.

That is specific to the location indicated but yes, you fill out the application and submit to Consulate section to obtain the visa. On arrival with a UK passport you get a permitted to stay stamp for 60 days. After 40 days or so visit an Immigration office, fill out a TM.7 form with photo and pay 1,900 baht for an additional 30 days. These are added to your current stay so no need to wait until the last moment.
